Astonishing moment speeding Peugeot overtaking on the wrong side of the road slams into a turning car towing a horse – sparking ridiculous debate over who was in the wrong

A Peugeot that slammed into a car trying to cross an unbroken line and turn into a driveway with a horse trailer in tow has sparked a debate over who was in the wrong.

Dashcam footage from two passing cars captured the crash as it unfolded along Buchanan Drive at Morayfield, in Queensland, on Wednesday.

The car towing the horse trailer sits on the one-lane road as it waits for oncoming traffic to pass.

Traffic slowly backs up behind the vehicle before a silver Peugeot switches lanes to overtake the queue.

The vehicle dodges oncoming traffic and has several near misses.

The car towing the horse trailer slowly turns over the unbroken line and crosses the opposite lane to pull into its driveway.

But the Peugeot approaches from behind and clips the vehicle before spinning out.

The footage was uploaded to Facebook where drivers were torn over who was to blame for the accident.

Some drivers blamed the car towing the horse trailer and said they should not have tried to cross over an unbroken line and into their driveway.

Road laws dictate drivers are forbidden from crossing over unbroken lines to overtake a vehicle or make a turn - but a driver is exempted from the rule if they are turning into their driveway.

Viewers who were more clued in to the rule quickly stood in to defend the driver towing the horse trailer and slam the Peugeot driver.

'This is their home of course they can turn in,' one person wrote.

'So do people really think when these people go home everyday, they have to drive down the road and U turn to come back the other way? Or take a totally different route home so they are on the other side of the road?'

Another one added: 'Good to hear that the horse and the driver of the dash cam footage is okay.

'I can't say the same for the driver of the other car. He did a major stupid and deserved what he got.'

A majority of drivers blamed the silver Peugeot for driving on the wrong side of the road.

'How did he miss the oncoming cars that the cam driver had been waiting for?' one person commented.

'Even that must have been very close.'
