MAGA rioter, 36, says he was 'inspired by Trump's words of election fraud' - becoming the fifth person in the mob charged with storming the Capitol to use that defense

A man from Ohio who is accused of entering the U.S. Capitol and stealing a coat rack from the Senate during the January 6 siege of the building, claims he was 'inspired to do so by former President Donald Trump's lies about election fraud.' Dustin Byron Thompson, 36, from Columbus was accompanied by his layer Sam Shamansky on Monday morning at the U.S. District Courthouse in the Ohio state capital.   'How else do you explain otherwise rational, law-abiding citizens traveling to D.C. and doing what they did?' Shamansky asked as he made the point to a federal judge in the hearing which saw his client released on own recognizance.   In what could signal a defense strategy for many of the people ensnared after the Capitol riots, Thompson's attorney essentially is laying the blame at Trump's feet, saying his client was merely following the instructions of the former president.  As of Monday, at least 95 individuals have been charged in connection with the riot, a

Former Arsenal youth football star, 23, is jailed for three-and-a-half years after admitting sexual activity with 14-year-old girl and distributing indecent image of her on social media

Tyrell Robinson, 23, was initially arrested in August 2018 A former Arsenal youth footballer was today jailed for three-and-a-half years after he pleaded guilty to a sex offence against a 14-year-old girl. Tyrell Robinson, 23, who was initially arrested in August 2018 following allegations of sexual assault, admitted engaging in sexual activity with a child, making an indecent image of a child and distributing an indecent image of a child via Snapchat. The winger, from Essex, was sacked by his former team Bradford City for gross misconduct after he was charged. He appeared at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday.  Robinson  admitted engaging in sexual activity with the teenager in Bradford on August 13, 2018. In June last year he entered a guilty plea to making and distributing an indecent image of a child via Snapchat on the same date. He denied a further charge of distributing an indecent photograph of a child in December 2017, and the court heard the prosecution would not proceed with t

German media doubles-down on AstraZeneca vaccine stats: Handelsblatt newspaper REPUBLISHES widely rubbished claim that Oxford jab is only 8% effective in Over-65s and says there was NOT a mix-up in its reporting

The German newspaper behind claims that the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine is only effective in 8% of over-65s has doubled down on its claims and stated there was no mix-up in its reporting. Business paper Handelsblatt yesterday published the story containing a claim based on unnamed political sources which was rejected by the manufacturers and the UK and German governments. Some German media outlets reported the suspected source of the error - a mix-up with the figure of eight per cent of trial participants who were aged 56 to 69.  Today a new Handelsblatt article declared it was 'impossible to mix up the numbers'. Others believe it is possible that eight per cent was the lowet possible figure taken from a wide range of estimates on efficacy. A new article published on Handelsblatt's website quoted a senior source who declared it was 'impossible to mix up the numbers,' after others attempted to debunk a claim in the paper yesterday that AstraZeneca's vaccine is onl

A pad to raise your Dynasty! Joan Collins lists her Manhattan apartment with its 16 closets, three bedrooms, and full-time concierge for $2million

Dame Joan Collins’ New York City pied-à-terre, with its 16 closets, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a doorman, concierge, and close proximity to Central Park, is on sale for $2.05million. The 87-year-old Dynasty star put her eighth-floor, 2,200sq ft co-op apartment, which is three units combined into one, on the market. The list price is a bargain considering that Collins initially asked for $2.9million back in 2011. A year later, the home was listed for $2.2million. But the COVID-19 pandemic has upended the New York City real estate market, and the relatively cheap price tag means that the actress is eager to unload the property.  The property, which is located in The Dorchester building nestled among residential skyscrapers on Manhattan’s ‘Billionaires Row’, boasts two master suites in separate wings, according to the real estate agent handling the sale. Two thirds of Britons think smart motorways are LESS safe than normal ones with hard shoulders and 57% are opposed to their use entirely, reveals YouGov poll

Two thirds of Britons think smart motorways are less safe than normal ones with hard shoulders and 57 per cent of people are opposed to their use entirely, a YouGov poll has revealed.  The latest findings come just days after Dr Alan Billings, Police Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire, wrote to the Government saying the abolition of the hard shoulder should be 'abandoned' before more people die, branding them 'inherently unsafe'.  The poll found 64 per cent of Brits agree with Dr Billings's claims that smart motorways are not as safe, while only seven per cent believed they were safer. Thirty-eight people have been killed on smart motorways over a five-year period, the BBC reported last year.
