Daylight Saving Time: Time to Save

Clocks hang on a wall in Hands of Time, a clock store and repair shop in Savage, Md., Friday, March 8, 2013. It's the weekend to spring ahead for daylight saving time. DES MOINES, Iowa -- Worried you'll feel a little groggy from missing an hour of sleep Saturday night? You're not alone. Daylight saving time affects us all in more ways than you might think. Here are eight of them: 1. For starters, it's "daylight saving time" -- without an "s" on the end of "saving." Now you can correct all your friends. 2. President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act into law in 2005, which extended the length of DST by four weeks. It now begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November -- except in Hawaii and Arizona, where they observe standard time year-round. With all that sunshine, they probably don't even care what time it is. (Parts of Indiana, by the way, resisted DST until 2006.) 3. The time

Freddie Mitchell Fred Ex and his hands are going to jail? Say it isn’t so? He was just on Millionaire Matchmaker (never trust reality show titles), but now he is going to be making license plates at the penitentiary?  The People’s Champ, is now going to be the Prison’s Champ? Cold world.     Former Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell faces up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to his role in a tax-fraud scheme.     Mitchell and two others filed false tax returns on behalf of another athlete, identified only with the initials “A.G.” The plan was devised to receive a larger refund from the IRS and was done without the other athlete’s knowledge. Mitchell’s role was to recruit athletes and the two others filed the returns while also charging for their services as tax preparers. The maximum sentence is 10 years in prison, but I doubt that Mitchell gets that much, but by pleading guilty, he will probably have to spend some time behind bars and face a hefty fine up to

Mark Cuban Bulls: Cuban Assists Chicago Bulls After Scare

Mark Cuban is an American businessma The Chicago Bulls had a midair scare while flying en route to Indianapolis this past Saturday for a road contest against the Indiana Pacers. After having to drive to the city for the eventual 97-92 loss, Tom Thibodeau's squad got some valuable help from an unlikely source—Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. ESPN Chicago reports that Cuban allowed the Bulls to use his Mavericks team plane to fly to San Antonio on Monday to play the Spurs, provided that they return after the game on Wednesday. Apparently, the bizarre transportation situation has not translated to success on the court for Chicago. The team lost 101-83 after being outscored by 23 points in the second half, marking their second straight defeat. Although he hasn't made a splash on the court since signing a 10-day contract earlier this month, Bulls forward Lou Amundson tweeted out a photo aboard Cuban's plane, giving thanks to the outspoken businessman. Miley takes off ring: Cyrus Spotted without ring

Media games: Miley Cyrus left a recording studio in Los Angeles on Wednesday, replacing her engagement ring with another item of jewellery, hours after denying her wedding to Liam Hemsworth was off So after denying reports the wedding was off and bleating on Twitter about the 'lies', Miley Cyrus banged things to rights... by stepping out minus her engagement ring. Not the most obvious response, but perhaps the kind reactionary tactics of a young starlet playing a game with the media. Miley, 20, pointedly held up her left hand as she was snapped by photographers in Los Angeles on Wednesday, brandishing a replacement piece of bling on her wedding finger. Spot the difference: Miley's ring on Wednesday, seen right the 3.5-carat diamond ring Liam gave to her It was not the 3.5-carat diamond Neil Lane ring Hunger Games star Liam bestowed her with last summer. Blocked Bids to Fill Judgeships Stir Latest Fight on Filibuster

Caitlin J. Halligan's nomination to the District of Columbia federal appeals court was filibustered by Republicans. WASHINGTON — A fresh feud over federal judgeships has again begun to agitate the Senate, with Republicans so far blocking President Obama from filling any of the four vacancies on the nation’s most prestigious and important appeals court. After Republicans this week filibustered the nomination of Caitlin J. Halligan of New York to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Democrats quickly began discussions over how to respond. One possibility is for Mr. Obama to make several simultaneous nominations, in effect daring Republicans to find specific objections in multiple instances. Democrats say Republicans would be hard pressed to come up with legitimate reasons to disqualify all four. “We need to design a strategy to counter the Republicans, and we are going to need the president,” said Senator Tom Udall, Democrat of New Mexico. “Ra

Reported: Huge flood on Mars

This image provided by NASA and taken by a camera aboard NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows the equatorial plains region known as Elysium Planitia on Mars. Using a radar instrument aboard the spacecraft, scientists made a 3-D map of flood channels below the surface of Mars, apparently created by past flooding. The findings were reported online, March 7, in the journal Science. The face of Mars is dotted with a maze of channels, pointing to possible ancient megaflood episodes. Now scientists peering below the surface have uncovered the first evidence of underground channels apparently created by flooding — a finding that's expected to further illuminate the role of water in Mars' history. Using a ground-piercing radar sensor aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, a team of scientists created 3-D maps of an equatorial region known as Elysium Planitia and the channels that run underneath the plains. Besides the contributions from rovers and landers, "

Denny Hamlin: I won't pay NASCAR fine

The truth is what the truth is. I don’t believe in this. I’m never going to believe in it. As far as I’m concerned, I’m not going to pay the fine. If they suspend me, they suspend me. I don’t care at this point.” NASCAR could do just that, which would hurt Hamlin, who drives for Joe Gibbs Racing, in the Sprint Cup standings. Or NASCAR could deduct the money from his next race weekend. Or it could just drop the whole matter and admit it made a mistake. (Not that sports organizations ever do that … ) In a statement on Twitter, Hamlin indicated he would appeal and added tha
