Pope Francis stumbles

Pope Francis stumbles, The newly elected Pope Francis held an audience at St. Peter's Basilica for the cardinals gathered in Rome Friday morning. He had a slight misstep and stumbled as he stepped down from the altar to greet the cardinals at Mass. He quickly regained his footing but not before his trip was captured for the world to see. The increased scrutiny that comes with his role as pope has resurfaced issues from Francis' past, including claims regarding his role during Argentina's so-called "dirty war," when a military junta killed thousands of Argentinians, including priests. Francis has been accused of not doing enough to protect them. Special Section: Change at the Vatican Reporters in Argentina have also tracked down the elderly woman he allegedly wanted to marry -- and who reportedly received love letters from the Francis -- when they were both young teenagers. On more substantive issues such as church reform, Vatican-watchers say the new pope has alr

Jacquelin Perry dies, at the age 94

Jacquelin Perry dies, The country was in the grip of a polio epidemic in the 1950s when orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jacquelin Perry began performing spinal surgeries in Downey that helped paralyzed survivors of the disease regain mobility. When some of the same patients returned to her 40 years later seeking help for pain and muscle weakness wrought by the aftereffects of polio, Perry remained true to form. She blazed a trail, transforming herself into the leading authority on post-polio syndrome. She was also known for her pioneering analysis of the human gait, publishing a definitive textbook on the subject in her 70s. Perry, who had Parkinson's disease but was still practicing as of last week, died Monday at her home in Downey. She was 94. Her death was announced by Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, with which she had been affiliated since 1955. Cow dung air freshener

Cow dung air freshener, Two Indonesian high school students have made an air freshener from cow manure. Dwi Nailul Izzah and Rintya Aprianti Miki won first prize in the country's Science Project Olympiad with their alternative and environmentally-friendly air freshener. The air freshener is said to have a natural fragrance of herbs and is good for human health because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals like other freshener products on the market. The girls collected cow dung from a cattle farm in Lamongan regency of East Java and left it to ferment for three days. Secondly, they extracted water from the cow dung and mixed it with coconut water. Then the liquid was distilled to remove any impurities; the end product is a liquid air freshener with a natural aroma of herbs from digested cow food. The girls will go on to represent Indonesia at the International Environment Project Olympiad race (INEPO) in Istanbul.

Six killed bar shooting

Six killed bar shooting, (Reuters) - Two men armed with a machine gun and a handgun opened fire in a bar on the outskirts of the Mexican tourist resort of Cancun on Thursday, killing six people and wounding five, the office of the state's attorney general said. Cancun, a major tourist destination on Mexico's Caribbean coast, has largely escaped the drug-related violence that has racked Acapulco, a faded tourist hot spot on the Pacific coast. Last month, six Spanish women were raped by hooded gunmen who forced their way into the Acapulco beach house the women had rented. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has vowed to reduce the violence that soared after his predecessor, Felipe Calderon, launched an assault on drug cartels. More than 70,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico since 2007. (Reporting by Isela Serrano; Writing by Elinor Comlay; Editing by Mohammad Zargham)

Facebook hashtags

Facebook hashtags, Facebook Inc is looking to improve its search and indexing capabilities by adding the hashtag symbol, one of the most recognizable features of its social networking rival Twitter, according to media reports. The hashtag, which appears as the # symbol, makes it easier for users to follow specific topics of conversation within the ever-changing stream of comments posted on Twitter. Users type the hashtag alongside a keyword - such as #election - at the end of a Tweet, making it easy to group comments on the same topic. Facebook could similarly organize the conversations that take place on its more than one billon member social network by incorporating hashtags, said The Wall Street Journal which first reported the news on Thursday citing anonymous sources, thought it noted that the feature wasn't being introduced imminently. Facebook declined to comment. Facebook introduced a revamped social search feature, dubbed Graph Search, in January. The search tool allows u

The child was rushed to the hospital and is in critical but stable condition. Police say they discovered a seven-page suicide note under a bed in the apartment Wachenheim shared with her husband. Wachenheim said in the note she recognized what she was about to do was "evil" but she was concerned about how her child was developing, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case, according to the Associated Press. It was unclear whether the baby, who neighbors said was an only child, had any mental or physical problems. A window to the West Harlem apartment was wide open, and there were no signs of struggle inside, police said. There were no safety bars on the apartm
