Thatcher death party organiser made £150,000 on her council home

The teacher who organised vile Thatcher ‘death parties’ and compared the Baroness to Hitler, bought her council house using the Iron Lady's right-to-buy scheme and then doubled her money, it was revealed today. Romany Blythe, 45, made £150,0000 when she sold her North London home four years after buying it off the local authority in Islington. Lady Thatcher wanted to increase house ownership in the 1980s after she came to power, so she let council property residents snap them up for bargain prices from local authorities. And it appears that extreme anti-Thatcherite Miss Blythe used the scheme to make a huge sum of cash. Thatcher hater: Romany Blythe invited 5,000 to a party celebrating the Iron Lady's death, but years earlier bought a council house (right) using the landmark right-to-buy scheme, selling it for double what she paid Sale: Documents show that Miss Blythe bought the house in Islington for £141,000 and then sold it four years later for £298,000 In June 2

Teaching assistant who lied that she had cancer is jailed for 18 months

A teaching assistant has been jailed after she conned £20,000 out of friends by saying that she had terminal cancer. Ursula Rose, 42, duped colleagues into handing over money from loans and savings to finance Harley Street treatment. One donor even raided her children's savings after the mother of four told the school she had 'tumours in her head'. Rose told friends she was going for daily chemotherapy and radiotherapy for aggressive brain tumours - including one allegedly wrapped round a main artery that could kill her at any moment. Judge Jeremy Gold QC today ordered Rose to pay her victims back £15,000 she still owes. He said: ‘You were much admired by your colleagues and they believed you when you said you had a brain tumour. ‘This was a gross betrayal of their trust. Good people with the best of intentions were completely taken in by your lies. 'You even forged documents to continue your fraud. Your fraud, I'm afraid to say, must be categorised as calculated a

Scots pan Perfect Pippa's party guide to Burns Night

Pippa Middleton has been accused of producing a 'twee' and bland guide to one of Scotland's most famous traditions - Burns Night. She details how it should be celebrated in a chapter of Celebration, her party book published last week. The Duchess of Cambridge's younger sister suggests a menu of several courses: 'soup (I suggest Cullen skink); then haggis; perhaps a steak pie (which is great if you prefer to serve the haggis as a starter); followed by a dessert (such as cranachan) or cheese.' Launch: Pippa Middleton launches her new creative entertaining book 'Celebrate: A Year Of Festivities For Family and Friends' at an afternoon children's hallowen party last week Known as Perfect Pippa at university, the 29-year-old was paid a £400,000 advance for the book 'IT'S PRETTY RUDIMENTARY:' SCATHING VERDICTS ON BOOK 'It stifles the life out of the concept - and Burns is all about life.' Pippa is the new face of Waitrose: As Delia is dropped

One has sold more than 21million cookery books and has the ability to spark a run on anything from cranberries to Normandy sunblush tomatoes. The other has written one tome which dishes out such sage advice as stopping cakes from going stale by putting them in ‘an airtight tin’ and how to toast marshmallows. There’s a world of difference between Delia Smith and Pippa Middleton when it comes to tips about food. But that hasn’t stopped Waitrose ditching the former and giving the latter her own column in its magazine. ‘Pippa’s Friday Night Feasts’ will advise on the best meals to start the weekend off with friends. ‘It will,’ the 29-year-old says, ‘be an exciting opportunity to share my own passion and enthusiasm for food and entertaining.’ Book: Pippa and her publisher Penguin hoped Celebrate would be a much bigger success than it actually was A picture of a beaming Pippa features on the front cover of the latest edition of the Waitrose Kitchen magazine. She said: ‘I’m delighted to be
