IIM-Raipur’s campus gets green signal

Indian Institute of Management-Raipur (IIM-R) will have the stone-laying foundation ceremony of its upcoming new infrastructure at Naya Raipur, village Pota-Cheriya on May 5. To be built on a budget of Rs 600 crore, the campus was recently approved by the planning commission. The institute that currently operates from Government Engineering College at Sejbahar has its proposed campus spread across 200 acres of land of which 13 lakh square feet would be utilised for the building and rest for extra-curricular activities," Prof B S Sahay, director, IIM-R said. "Assuming 2016 as the deadline for completion, the campus would have facilities that are a blend of modern architecture and heritage of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh to get second airport at Raigarh

With the Airport Authority of India (AAI) according approval for developing Chhattisgarh's second airport, the erstwhile princely estate of Raigarh, which is fast developing into a major industrial town, would soon figure on the country's air map. The work on the construction of the Rs 260 crores full-fledged airport is likely to start soon after the signing of the MOU between the state government and the AAI sometime this month. Confirming the move, Subodh Singh, Aviation Secretary, said the new airport would be developed in two phases, with Rs 158 crore being spend on the first phase. The project is likely to be completed in three to four years he said. He said once the airport becomes operational, flights of ATR-72 aircraft, which can seat 70 to 80 people, would be started initially. Indian high commission approached for release of Salaya vessels

Salaya Sailing Vessels Owners Association has urged the Indian High Commission in Islamabad seeking its intervention in the case pertaining to seizure of two of their vessels by Pakistan Coast Guard a few days ago.Association president A H Bhaya said two vessels namely Al Burhan and Al Faruqi were seized by Pakistanis. "We have requested the concerned government authorities to take up the matter with the Pakistan government. We fear that while the crew of these vessels will be deported, the vessels would be kept there?" he said. Al Faruqi with 11 Indians on board had sailed from Salaya with livestock for Dubai and had mechanical problems in the international waters on April 13. It had drifted towards Pakistani port of Pasni near Gwadar where it was seized. Meanwhile, Al Burhan sailed from Mundra to Dubai and its crew tried to contact those on Al Faruqi. Property tax in Bhavnagar linked to carpet area

Residents of Bhavnagar will now pay property tax on the basis of carpet area assessment of their properties. Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities said the new system be enforced from this financial year. It is part of the reform agenda to have a uniform tax assessment system across the state.Deputy municipal commissioner Dilip Dave said BMC carried out a survey of 2,17,000 properties between 2006 and 2008 before it decided to switch over to the new system."All these properties will be issued special notices-cum-bills on the basis of carpet-area assessment. With a view to help taxpayers, an arrangement has been made to appoint 20 appellate officers who will consider objections and suggestions and will dispose off cases at the earliest. Building flouted safety norms

Trivenipuram Apartment, which comprises 600 flats with at least 3,000 people living in them, does not have a 'No Objection Certificate' from the fire department.Residents said the building does not abide by fire safety rules. There are no fire extinguishers and even the lifts were not working properly.Abhilasha Trivedi, a homemaker who lives in a flat in the Kaveri block, said, "After seeing the flames, I ran out of my house. But as the lifts were not working, I had to take the stairs.
