‘Donald was a very gentle chap’: Family member of couple who died in horrific ‘murder suicide’ 20 years ago backs coroner’s theory they may have been victims of serial killer - amid calls for new police probe

A family member has backed a coroner's claim that their elderly relatives died at the hands of a serial killer – and not in a murder suicide as previously reported. On November 26, 1999, devoted couple Donald, 73, and Auriel Ward, 68 - who were happily married for 45 years - were found dead in their bloodstained bed at their home in Wilmslow.  A coroner at the time found that Mr Ward, a retired chemist, killed his ex-nursery school teacher wife before killing himself - despite saying the behaviour was 'so alien' to the loving husband's personality. Now, a senior coroner fears the pair could have fallen victim to a grisly serial killer after their case bore a striking similarity to one three years prior - and Cheshire police are carrying out a review into the findings. A relative of Mr and Mrs Ward, who has not been named, told The Mirror: 'The police should certainly investigate this. It's come as quite a shock. Auriel and Donald Ward, who were found dead at the

The 65-year-old Peakhurst man was arrested in June and charged with threatening someone in an attempt to change a police statement. This followed an ongoing investigation into several alleged extortions and kidnappings, including that of a 36-year-old man who was taken from Lakemba in July last year and assaulted at an unknown location before being returned. The arrested man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday.

Doncic, Mavs riding momentum vs. Clippers

Even before they began their Western Conference first-round series, the Dallas Mavericks were a long shot to get past the Los Angeles Clippers. Injuries and ejections early in the best-of-seven series made the road even more difficult, but the Mavericks have overcome those obstacles to twice even the series heading into Game 5 on Tuesday night near Orlando. Despite playing on a tender left ankle, Dallas forward Luka Doncic put the Mavericks on his shoulders in Game 4 on Sunday and lifted them to victory against second-seeded Los Angeles. He led them back from a 21-point first-half deficit and later hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer in the 135-133 victory. The 21-year-old from Slovenia finished with 43 points, 17 rebounds and 13 assists, becoming the youngest player in NBA history with a 40-point triple-double during the playoffs. His buzzer beater, combined with his stat line and the physical limitations caused by the ankle injury that forced him out late in the Gam

Alex Rance, a retired AFL player and devout Jehovah's Witness, was reportedly locked in to be this year's Bachelor before negotiations broke down. And while former Australian Survivor star Locky Gilbert eventually landed the role of TV's most eligible suitor, there's no doubt having Rance hand out roses would have made for very compelling viewing indeed. That's because in addition to his sporting success and dashing good looks, the 30-year-old also has a certain air of mystery about him thanks to his abrupt departure from the league late last year. Women should avoid caffeine completely during pregnancy, study says

Women who are pregnant or trying for a baby should consider avoiding caffeine altogether, research has suggested. Current guidance on the NHS website suggests pregnant women should limit the amount of caffeine they consume to 200 milligrams a day. However, a new study concludes that pregnant women – or those trying for a baby – should avoid caffeine completely. Caffeine is found naturally in some foods and drinks, such as tea, coffee and chocolate. It is also added to some energy drinks, cold and flu remedies and some soft drinks. The new study, published in the journal BMJ Evidence Based Medicine, examined data from 37 observational studies. The research, by Professor Jack James, of Reykjavik University in Iceland, found that 32 of these studies reported that caffeine significantly increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes including stillbirth, miscarriage and low birth weight. He also cited an increased risk of childhood acute leukaemia and children being overweight or obese when
