Victoria records 11 new cases of coronavirus overnight and zero deaths - after Dan Andrews was forced to back down on plans for controversial powers of detention

Victoria has recorded 11 new coronavirus cases and no deaths overnight, after the state government was forced to scrap controversial plans to grant extra powers to public servants. The embattled state's death toll from the virus stands at 809 while the national figure is 897.  Thursday's cases bring Melbourne's 14-day case average to 9.7, a slight drop from 9.9 on Wednesday. Melbourne's number of mystery cases between September 22 and October 5 sits at 14. Victoria has recorded 11 new coronavirus cases and no deaths overnight. Almost 90% of coronavirus-infected patients DON'T have any of the three tell-tale symptoms when they are tested, study finds

Almost 90 per cent of Covid-19 patients don't have any of the three main symptoms of the disease on the day they are tested, scientists have revealed. Researchers analysed data from 36,000 volunteers who were swabbed for the virus between the end of April, a month after lockdown began, and end of June.   But just 16 of 115 people who tested positive for Covid-19 had a fever, cough or had lost their taste or smell — the only symptoms listed by the NHS — on the day their sample was taken.  When fatigue and shortness of breath were added to the 'core' symptoms list, just 23 per cent had the warning signs.  Although 158 people in the survey were suffering from at least one of the three tell-tale symptoms when they were tested, only 10 per cent of those had the virus. This adds to evidence that thousands of people suffering from coronavirus-like symptoms will need to be tested this winter because it is the only way to find out if they have the disease.  The University College Lo

Sugar level in biscuits and cakes falls by just 3% despite Government pledge to reduce it by a fifth - and Britons are eating MORE chocolate than ever, in double blow to obesity crackdown

The Government's goal to cut 20 per cent of sugar from cakes, biscuits and other foods by the end of the year is set to fail because firms have only managed a three per cent reduction so far. Public Health England asked the food and drinks industry to voluntarily slash a fifth of sugar from its products in 2016, with the aim of cutting five per cent in the first year.  Three years later, data shows Number 10 has fallen woefully short and is making 'slow progress' with 'little or no reductions' across the board. Sugar levels across all food categories have only dropped 3 per cent.  And consumers aren't looking to cut down their sugar intake either as data suggests Britons are eating more chocolate than they were five years ago. Chocolate sales shot up by 16 per cent between 2015 and 2019, while sweet sales increased by 7 per cent in the same period.    Chocolate products are only 0.4 per cent lower in sugar, while the figure for sweets is just 0.1 per cent. Disney reaches agreement with workers' union in Florida to avoid layoffs for full-time cast members - but 8,800 part-time employees will lose their jobs

About 8,800 part-time union workers at Walt Disney World in Florida will lose their jobs, but no full-time cast members will be 'forced into layoffs' following a union agreement Wednesday. Last week Disney announced it will lay off 28,000 people across its theme park division nationwide. On Wednesday Disney World's largest union the Service Trades Council Union announced that 8,800 part-time cast members furloughed during the coronavirus will be laid off as the theme park cuts about 20 percent of its workforce. US federal agent and 'QAnon follower is indicted for threatening superior and accusing him of taking part in 9/11 and being in a pedophile ring with Jeffrey Epstein and Hillary Clinton'

A Customs and Border Protection officer said to be a believer in the QAnon conspiracy theory allegedly threatened a superior by claiming he would bring ‘Donald Trump and the US military’ to get him for his involvement in a child sex trafficking ring. Alberto Almeida was indicted by federal prosecutors in New Jersey last week for sending threatening text messages and social media posts to Edward Fox, CBP’s assistant port director for Newark, The Daily Beast reported. Almeida is alleged to have sent several menacing messages to Fox over a nine-month period. The threats accused Fox of all sorts of bizarre crimes that are in line with the far-right conspiracy theory that has often been repeated online by supporters of President Trump and some Republican politicians. Followers of QAnon believe that Trump is secretly waging a war to dismantle a Satan-worshipping cabal of pedophiles in the government, the business world, and the media.
