Bitcoin county lines drug ring smashed: Cocaine dealers are suspected of using web currency to prey on Middle England

Police have smashed Britain's first Bitcoin county lines gang. The group is suspected of hiding millions in the crypto-currency after enabling middle-class drug users to transfer funds online.  In a highly sophisticated operation, the massive gang allegedly set up numerous Bitcoin accounts to buy and sell class A drugs across four counties in near-untraceable payments.  They were rumbled when police received a tip-off about suspicious drug activity in a pub run by the alleged ringleader.  It led to a six-month investigation and yesterday 220 officers swooped on 19 alleged gang members in dawn raids in Essex and Suffolk – including a 4am operation at the £635,000 home of alleged kingpin Chris Golding in Harlow.  Around 220 officers swooped on 19 alleged gang members in dawn raids in Essex and Suffolk – including a 4am operation at the £635,000 home of alleged kingpin Chris Golding in Harlow Members of the network are said to have started using Bitcoin after running out of places to

Former top GOP fundraiser 'to plead guilty' after being charged for covertly lobbying Trump administration and DOJ in foreign influence operation to help Malaysian and Chinese interests

Elliott Broidy, a former top fundraiser for President Donald Trump, was charged Thursday by federal authorities for violating foreign lobbying laws – and sources familiar with the matter say he intends to plead guilty. Prosecutors have accused the former finance chairman of the Republican National Committee of conspiring with others to unsuccessfully lobby the Department of Justice to drop a probe into the $4.5 billion embezzlement scandal involving Malaysia's state-owned investment fund, 1MDB. The documents say that Broidy also unsuccessfully lobbied the Trump administration and DOJ to arrange for the 'removal and return' of a Chinese national - and a critic of the Beijing regime - who was seeking asylum in the US. Broidy was charged in the US District Court in Washington DC Thursday with conspiring to act as unregistered agent for a foreign principal.  He is expected to plead guilty on October 20 in a deal with the Justice Department, according to Reuters.   Major Trump f

Nadine Dorries warns of NHS beds crisis as number of coronavirus patients admitted to English hospitals doubles in two weeks... but two thirds of trusts take in no more than ONE Covid patient per day

The number of Covid patients admitted to English hospitals has more than doubled in the past two weeks – but it’s still nowhere near as bad as it was in the spring. Latest figures show 524 coronavirus cases were so severe they needed to be treated on NHS wards on Tuesday. Health minister Nadine Dorries yesterday said admissions – mostly in the North – might be at a ‘critical stage’ in around ten days.  ‘Those who now claim that further measures are not needed, will in about ten days from now, when hospital admissions are at a critical stage argue that we didn’t do enough,’ she said.  Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, chairman of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, said the ‘indications are not looking good’ and that the nation was at a ‘tipping point’.  But the NHS is far from overrun and the current spike is highly localised. Hospitals in the North West and North East have seen admissions surge by up to 60 per cent in the last week, whereas in huge swathes of the South, hospitals are

Pantomime season has been saved as plans being announced today will enable audiences to attend festive performances.  Cash-strapped theatres will receive money from a private fund to cover the cost of the seats that they have to leave empty to comply with social distancing measures.  The plan to revive theatre-going is being funded by Camelot.  The National Lottery operator approached Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden with an offer of help after he came under mounting pressure to support arts bodies.  Pantomimes are expected to take place at theatres including the London Palladium, which normally seats an audience of more than 2,200, as part of the deal.  Pantomime season has been saved as plans being announced today will enable audiences to attend festive performances (stock image)  Last month, Mr Dowden said his officials were working on 'Operation Sleeping Beauty' to bring back 'the magic of theatre for families this Christmas'.  However the plan fell flat with the sec
