Colin Kaepernick is named to the University of Nevada's Hall of Fame class of 2020 - but his induction will be postponed due to COVID-19

NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick has been selected for induction into the Hall of Fame at his alma mater, the University of Nevada in Reno. The school revealed its Hall of Fame class of 2020 inductees on Friday, which included Kaepernick, two of his Wolf Pack teammates, one women's and two men's basketball players, including former NBA forward Luke Babbitt. 'The 2020 Hall of Fame class represents some of the best of the best in Wolf Pack history,' athletic director Doug Knuth said in a statement. 'This is an incredible collection of accomplished student-athletes and we can't wait for the opportunity to welcome them back to campus and celebrate their careers.' Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, there will not be an induction dinner this year. The school does plan to hold an event when it is safe.  8873883 Colin Kaepernick is named to the University of Nevada's Hall of Fame class of 2020 - but his induction will be postponed due to COVID-19 NFL fre

Croydon cat killer investigation should be reopened, says Tory MP because it's 'fanciful' to blame spate of feline deaths on foxes

The Croydon cat killer investigation should be reopened, said Tory MP Elliot Colburn . He claimed it was a 'fanciful' theory that urban foxes were behind the deaths because the victims were not eaten The Croydon cat killer investigation should be reopened, a Tory MP said yesterday. Elliot Colburn claimed it was a 'fanciful' theory that urban foxes were behind the deaths because the victims were not eaten.  Fears that a serial killer was on the loose emerged after hundreds of cats were reported to have been mutilated across the south London borough since November 2015. Some reported finding animals decapitated, while others had their tails docked. Six cases were deemed to be suspicious and required further investigation, during which time another 400 reports of cat mutilations were collated in and around London.   But Scotland Yard concluded that there was 'no evidence that any of the cats had been killed by a human'.  It said the injuries inflicted on the pets w

Cost of face masks could rise by a fifth after Government refusal to extend VAT freeze on medical PPE

The cost of face masks is set to rise by a fifth from next week as the Government comes under fire for refusing to extend the VAT freeze on PPE. Treasury officials have told retailers that the six-month VAT holiday on personal protective equipment would come to an end on October 31.   The 20 per cent tax was temporarily waived on May 1 to help cope with a surge in demand for Covid-19 protective kit amid peak pandemic paranoia.    The controversial decision means that the increase will be passed on to consumers for coverings, which have become mandatory in many areas of British life.     It is estimated that the cost of freezing the VAT on PPE for most of the Covid-19 pandemic will be around £200million, the Telegraph reports.  Industry officials had been lobbying Government for an extension of the freeze, insisting that it was in the national interest as the UK recorded over 20,000 cases.  In other coronavirus developments:  The Government has been criticised for refusing to extend a V

New South Wales enjoys a second day of ZERO local coronavirus cases with no patients left in intensive care - piling pressure on Gladys Berejiklian to ease even more restrictions

New South Wales has recorded its second consecutive day of no new locally acquired coronavirus infections.  There are currently 74 active COVID-19 cases in NSW - though 92 per cent are non-acute cases being treated outside of hospital and there are no cases in intensive care.    On Saturday there were five new coronavirus cases announced as discovered in the 24 hours to 8pm Friday in NSW - but these were acquired overseas and are in hotel quarantine.  After easing some restrictions on Friday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian could be under more pressure to lift remaining rules being placed on the state's residents with case numbers remaining low.  New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian (pictured in parliament on Tuesday) could review some of the state's remaining COVID-19 restrictions with case numbers remaining low  New South Wales has recorded five new coronavirus infections in the 24 hours to Saturday (pictured: Sydneysiders wear masks as they walk through the city)  The t

From Kyle Minogue singing the anthem to Meat Loaf's MCG disaster and decades of getting the show wrong: The incredible history of NRL and AFL grand final entertainment fails

As the countdown to the weekend's AFL and NRL grand finals draws ever closer a new chapter in the debate that has raged for decades will be written. I speak of course of the eternal question: which code has produced the greatest pre-game entertainment disaster? It's an argument that will probably never be completely settled. Those with long memories will always have their favourite nightmare and besides, how can you really compare an off-key singer to a ridiculous mode of transport? Neighbours stars Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue were synonomous with 1980s Australian popular culture ... less so with footy culture  Should a seriously bad performance be judged on the same basis as a cunning stunt gone wrong that actually puts lives at risk, and does a technical malfunction count higher than the unfathomable choice of a washed-up international rock-star? All valid points, but by breaking the GF disasters into distinct categories we'll give it our best shot. 1. Worst music

Millionaire owner of iconic Strand Book Store in NYC pleads with public for help as revenue drops 70% during the pandemic - despite receiving $1 MILLION PPP loan and buying more than $100,000 in Amazon stock while laying off workers

An iconic New York City bookstore is asking the public to save it from financial ruin brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic even though it is owned by a multimillionaire wife of a US senator who recently bought at least $115,000 in Amazon stock and then got a PPP loan while laying off workers. Strand Book Store, the 93-year-old institution where customers often get lost in the 18 miles of some 2.5 million new, used, and rare books at its famous Greenwich Village location, tweeted a dramatic statement pleading for help from the public. But outraged Twitter users noted that the store’s owner, Nancy Bass Wyden, the wife of Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, is reported to be worth tens of millions of dollars. Bass Wyden says that she has put up funds from her own personal fortune to help keep the business afloat.  'Luckily I own the building the Strand is located in, otherwise we’d be past the point of bankruptcy, but even that won’t sustain a retail business without retail cust
