A Tommy silhouette statue commemorating all soldiers who fought in WWI has been decapitated. Vandals sawed off the head of the memorial soldier which was created as a thank you to all those who served in the First World War. It is one of thousands of Lest We Forget monuments installed across the UK to remember the fallen. Resident Paul Johnson, 59, was shocked when he came across the decapitated statue at around midday yesterday in Watford, Hertfordshire. He said: 'It's disgraceful. Lord Blunkett’s guide dog has been accused of killing two squirrels in a public park. Witnesses say Barley, the former home secretary’s dog, attacked the animals when let off its lead to stretch its legs in two separate incidents in September and October. According to one park user, who filmed and photographed Barley running through Green Park, central London, he allegedly attacked a baby squirrel and an older animal. ‘It was horrific. A heartbroken widower who survived a suicide pact with his French sweetheart wife of 70 years, went on to take his own life two years later, an inquest heard. Welsh businessman John Jules Leonidas Andre Faleur, 94, was found dead at his Denbighshire home earlier this year. The body of an Irish nurse was discovered under a bridge just hours before her seven-month-old baby son was found dead at her home.  The body of Nicola Keane, 34, was found under a bridge near the M50 in Dublin at around 4am on Tuesday morning.  When Irish police went to her home in Lucan, they found her baby Henry 'unresponsive'. The Gardai confirmed he was pronounced dead 'a short time later'. The number of women applying to be train drivers at the biggest rail operator has doubled. Govia Thameslink Railway, which runs Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express services, said 825 women had applied to be trained as a driver so far this year, compared with 413 in the whole of 2019. The company said while historically the rail industry has struggled to attract women, the tide may be turning.
