Cameron Smith could find himself in hot water after accusing referees of trying to 'make an exciting finish' to the NRL Grand Final with a last-minute sin-binning

Storm captain Cameron Smith could be slapped with an expensive parting gift for accusing referees of trying to create a 'more exciting' finish. Melbourne stormed to victory in the NRL Grand Final despite a ferocious late comeback by the Penrith Panthers that kept the match alive into the final seconds. Storm held onto a six point lead despite playing with just 11 men for the final minutes after halfback Jahrome Hughes and utility Brandon Smith were sent to the sin bin. Smith, who despite his incredible talent is a polarising figure in rugby league because of his gamesmanship that many consider goes too far, was not at all pleased with this. Pope Francis appoints Washington Archbishop Wilton Gregory to become first black American cardinal

Pope Francis announced Sunday that he will name Washington DC archbishop Wilton Gregory a cardinal next month, making him the first African American to hold the esteemed title in the US. The announcement came as the pope announced 13 cardinals, including Gregory, 72, in the new class to earn the coveted red hat.  The promotion comes as the Bishop of Rome seeks to rebuild trust in the archdiocese following sexual abuse scandals.  Washington archbishops are typically named cardinals after their appointments, but Gregory's appointment is a historic one as black people are underrepresented in leadership within the US Catholic Church.      In a surprise announcement from his studio window to the faithful standing below in St. Peter's Square, Francis said the churchmen would be elevated to a cardinal's rank in a ceremony on November 28. No escape! Police in Wales set up checkpoints to quiz motorists and carry out checks on trains - as forces in England vow to turn around drivers without a good excuse for crossing the border

Police in Wales have set up checkpoints to quiz motorists over whether they are making essential journeys, while forces in England have vowed to turn drivers around who don't have a good reason for crossing the border.  Wales imposed a strict 17-day 'fire-breaker' lockdown on Friday which bars people from leaving their homes except for exercise, buying essential supplies or providing care. Despite differing rules in England under the three-tiered system, zealous police forces in the border counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire have promised to set up their own stops to question drivers leaving the Principality.  Train passengers are also facing stringent checks, as British Transport Police have made plain on Twitter by warning that 'those who think the rules don't apply to them & selfishly break them, need to be worried about being spoken to by us.'  Police in Carmarthenshire, Wales, carry out spot checks on drivers after the 'fire-br
