Papa says don't preach! Pope refuses to cover his face indoors despite rising infection rates in Vatican - as experts urge him to wear a mask

The Vatican's own Covid-19 experts have raised concerns over Pope Francis' decision to forgo wearing a mask, saying the pontiff is particularly vulnerable to the disease. The Rev Augusto Zampini - one of the key members of the pontiff's Covid-19 commission - acknowledged that at the age of 83 and with part of his lung having been removed after an illness in his youth, Francis would be at high risk for complications if he were to become infected with Covid-19. Zampini is one of a commission of experts Francis appointed to help chart the Catholic Church's path through the coronavirus pandemic.   'He has started to use the mask now,' Mr Zampini said in response to reporters' questions about the pope's apparent disregard for protocol after being photographed numerous times without a mask indoors.  Pope Francis, 83, has frequently been pictured without a face covering apparently ignoring Vatican rules to wear a face mask indoors. Experts are concerned that th

Covid deniers are 'deluded' blasts NI health minister as he tells people who think it's 'a great hoax' to 'talk to a nurse'

Northern Ireland's Health Minister Robin Swann has blasted Covid deniers for their 'deluded' beliefs, urging them to 'stay in the house' and 'out of the road'. Mr Swann, who this month issued a call for more healthcare staff to join the battle against coronavirus as Northern Ireland faced a second surge, urged those who believed the virus was a hoax to speak to experts about the reality of the pandemic.   In an interview with the BBC the health minister said: 'I have a very simple message. 'I would ask them just to stay in the house, stay out of the road, because if they think this is a hoax, talk to a nurse, talk to a doctor, talk to a hospital porter, talk to someone who is currently working across our health service or a care home to see the reality of what Covid actually means.  Northern Ireland Health Minister Robin Swann urged Covid deniers to speak to experts about the reality of the pandemic 'If they think this is some sort of a great hoa

Nearly 6,000 civilians have been killed or wounded in Afghanistan this year, a report finds, heaping strain on Taliban peace talks

Nearly 6,000 Afghan civilians were killed or wounded in the first nine months of the year as heavy fighting between government forces and Taliban insurgents rages on despite efforts to find peace, a new United Nations report has found. There were 5,939 civilian casualties in the fighting - 2,117 people killed and 3,822 wounded - from January to September 2020, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said in the report, released on Tuesday.   Casualties among civilians had dropped 30% from the same period last year but UNAMA said violence has failed to slow since the beginning of talks between government negotiators and the Taliban that began in the Qatari capital of Doha last month.  'High levels of violence continue with a devastating impact on civilians, with Afghanistan remaining among the deadliest places in the world to be a civilian,' the mission said in the quarterly report.  A new report from the United Nations has found that 2,117 civilians were killed and 3,822 woun

Meryl Streep's 'racist' nephew, 31, is filmed in Hamptons road rage fight with Hispanic student that left the 18-year-old unconscious and with severe brain trauma

Shocking new surveillance camera footage has laid bare the full extent of Meryl Streep's nephew, Charles Harrison Streep, alleged road rage assault on a teenager in East Hampton this summer. In footage, obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com and seen here for the first time today, Streep, 31, can be seen lifting 18-year-old David Peralta's limp body and thrusting him to the ground in an act that, Peralta alleges, resulted in the teenager suffering a life-threatening brain injury. Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com following the incident Peralta claimed the older man hurled racist abuse at him as he threatened to throw him to the ground and dismissed him as 'just Spanish.' Peralta's parents are both from Ecuador though he was born in America where he has lived all his life. LVMH and Tiffany 'are in talks' to settle $16 billion takeover 'for a lower price' after the luxury house tried to back out, accusing the jeweler of 'dismal performance' during the pandemic

U.S. jeweler Tiffany & Co and French luxury goods giant LVMH are in talks to settle their dispute over a $16 billion takeover at a price slightly lower than initially agreed, sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The negotiations were based on a price in the range of $131-$134 for each Tiffany share, against the $135 price when the deal was first agreed last November. An agreement at the bottom of that range would save LVMH, led by billionaire businessman Bernard Arnault, about $480 million on the initial $16.2 billion purchase price. The initial deal ran into trouble last month when the French group said it could no longer complete the transaction by the November 24 deadline.
