'Barnstorming' weekend in swing states: Biden and Obama kick off final push in Detroit while Trump does four rallies in Pennsylvania

President Trump, former Vice President Biden, and their respective camps are barnstorming across the United States this weekend in a last ditch effort to appeal to American voters for the upcoming election.  Former Vice President Joe Biden - with help from his old boss Barack Obama - is focusing on black voters in Michigan as the Democrat looks to head off a repeat of 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton's epic collapse in the state. Biden and Obama held a pair of drive-in rallies Saturday in Flint and Detroit, predominantly black cities whose turnout will play a large factor in whether Biden turns the state back to the Democrats´ column.  Biden and Obama held a pair of drive-in rallies Saturday in Flint and Detroit R&B legend Stevie Wonder is expected to perform in Detroit after Biden and Obama speak. The inspirational story of a brave tradie who drove 1,500km from Sydney to bushfire-ravaged Kangaroo Island to save the lives of 100 koalas using only his climbing gear

Kailas Wild thought his bushfire relief work was wrapping up as he sat in the last NSW SES debrief meeting in Sydney.  But minutes into the January 29 sitting, he received a message from a wildlife carer friend on Kangaroo Island calling on him to drive the 1,500km to help save koalas.  'I had seen what had happened down there and it had crossed my mind whether I  could be of any assistance,' Mr Wild, 34, told Daily Mail Australia. 'I thought maybe I could help get one koala down or two and that would be worth the trip.' The next day the arborist packed his car with clothes, climbing gear and a chainsaw then made the 20-hour drive from NSW to South Australia to ferry across to the fire-ravaged islet. Joe Biden continues to lead Trump in national polls which suggest battleground states like Wisconsin and Michigan could flip blue

Joe Biden continues to lead President Trump in several polls this week as the candidates attempt to drum up support with last-minute campaign rallies.   With just three days before the contentious November 3 election, Trump and Biden's final grab for votes comes after more than 90 million Americans have already cast their ballots. Trump has maintained an optimistic front before campaign crowds in Midwestern battleground states this week, but the latest polls suggested otherwise.  National polls once again indicated that Joe Biden was ahead of Donald Trump in the general election Biden led by as much as 11 points in this week's YouGov poll, which listed Biden at 54 per cent and Trump at 43 per cent based on 1,047 likely voters. A CNN poll of 886 Americans taken from October 23 to October 26 gave Biden a generous 12 point lead, with the numbers at 54-42.  Even Fox News, a frequent critic of Biden and repeated champion of Trump, surveyed 1,246 likely voters to find that Biden le

Who's the lockdown leaker? Pro-restriction Matt Hancock is at the centre of leak inquiry after PM had to reveal new rules two days earlier than planned

Health Secretary Matt Hancock was at the centre of an extraordinary Government leak inquiry last night after the Prime Minister was forced to announce the second national lockdown two days earlier than planned. Downing Street officials were infuriated on Friday evening to read details of the lockdown in the first editions of the Saturday newspapers, just hours after the decision had been taken by the 'quad' of Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak, Michael Gove and Mr Hancock. It forced Mr Johnson to bring forward the announcement of the measure from Monday to yesterday, despite many details still being finalised. The leak meant that the shutdown was on the front pages before the rest of the Cabinet had been told about the decision. Yesterday, Downing Street announced a formal inquiry. Even President's aide says Donald Trump is the only person in the White House who thinks he'll win the election as latest polls put Joe Biden eight points ahead

Donald Trump's hopes of a second term as US President appeared to be fading last night with even his closest aides admitting: 'The only person in the White House who thinks Trump can win is Trump himself.' As the President embarked on a frantic 14-stop tour of key battleground states across America, the latest polls put his Democratic rival Joe Biden eight points ahead with a record 90 million votes already cast. A Fox News poll had Mr Biden ahead by 52 per cent to 44. However, victory for either candidate will come down to a small number of 'swing states' including Florida and Pennsylvania where Mr Trump and Mr Biden are running neck and neck. Under the US system – in which states are assigned a number of 'electoral votes' with candidates needing a total of 270 to win – it is possible for a candidate to triumph in the popular vote and yet lose. Revealed: Councils paid £220million in 'golden goodbyes' to thousands of departing staff before laws to curb hefty payoffs took effect

Thirty  council officials received 'golden goodbyes' of more than £250,000 each in a 'stampede' before laws to curb hefty payoffs took effect. Councils in England spent more than £220 million on thousands of departing staff, with one official in Dorset picking up almost £1 million. The sums are revealed as new regulations that come into force on Wednesday cap exit payments in the public sector at £95,000. A Mail on Sunday analysis of such payments made by councils in the year to March 31 has found: One of the best-paid council bosses last year was Martin Yardley, former deputy chief executive at Coventry City Council, who was paid £573,660, including an exit package when he left in March MP Andrew Bridgen said: 'There has clearly been a stampede for these payouts before the new cap comes in. Some of these payments look more like lottery wins than compensation for losing a job.' Former chancellor George Osborne pledged in May 2015 to end six-figure payoffs in the

Hundreds waited outside Costcos in Manchester, London and Southampton, while shelves were stripped of loo rolls at Poundland in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. One of six men facing federal charges over an alleged plot to kidnap the governor of Michigan is asking a judge to reconsider her decision to keep him in jail, because he fears he might catch COVID-19. Kaleb Franks, 26, from Waterford, a township on the outskirts of Detroit, was arrested three weeks ago after undercover FBI agents and an informant told of their scheme.  Franks was allegedly part of the surveillance operation outside Whitmer's cottage and was one of five suspects who drove to a meeting hoping to buy explosives and tactical gear, only to get arrested in what turned out to be a setup by the FBI.   A recovering heroin addict, Franks was sent to prison for cocaine and for home invasion, but insists he has turned his life around.
