Huge Melbourne Cup drama as horse is SCRATCHED hours before the race

The Melbourne Cup field has been reduced to 23 runners, after the late scratching of one of the runners on Tuesday morning. King of Leogrance was pulled from the race after a veterinary inspection found the Danny O'Brien-trained gelding had an injury to its right front leg. The six-year-old gelding, owned by Lloyd Williams, who has had seven Melbourne Cup winners, was considered an outside chance with the bookies at $61 for the win. There are no emergencies for the Melbourne Cup, so the field will be one short.  Tuesday's Melbourne Cup is a minefield for the millions of people trying to pick a winner and now one of the runners has been scratched from the race (pictured: Women watch the 2019 race) The hotel anticipated race, which is happening at 3pm on Tuesday, has already been marred with drama (Pictured: Racegoers watch the race at Flemington in 2019) King of Leogrance was pulled from the race on Tuesday morning after a veterinary inspection Lloyd Williams son and co-owner N

Moment Bears receiver Javon Wims sucker punches Saints safety CJ Gardner-Johnson, igniting a brawl

Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims has been suspended for two games without pay by the NFL following his ejection from Sunday's overtime loss to New Orleans for sucker punching Saints safety CJ Gardner-Johnson.  Things got heated between the two teams during the third quarter on Sunday, with the game tied at 13, when Gardner-Johnson appeared to get in the face of Wims's teammate, Bears receiver Anthony Miller.  After a subsequent play was whistled dead, Wims rushed over to Gardner-Johnson, punching the Saints safety twice in the helmet. However, and somewhat predictably, Wims failed to cause any damage to the fully padded Gardner-Johnson.  Scroll down for video Things got heated between the two teams during the third quarter on Sunday, with the game tied at 13, when Saints safety CJ Gardner-Johnson (No. 22) appeared to get in the face of Wims's teammate, Bears receiver Anthony Miller. Race against time to save $2MILLION worth of live lobsters before they die on hot tarmac at a Chinese airport - as Beijing takes aim at timber next

China is preventing about 21 tonnes of Australian live lobster worth $2million from entering the country as exporters worry they may go off or die before they can be sold to shops and restaurants. The communist superpower has been holding up lobsters from Australia since Friday, claiming they contain trace elements of minerals and must be checked.  Exporters say there is nothing wrong with their product amid fears the hold up is China's latest attempt to coerce Australia following a rapid deterioration in relations between the nations this year. Tonnes of live lobsters - which are unlikely to survive a delay of more than 48 hours - have been left on airport runways. Professor Neil Ferguson warns UK faces another nationwide lockdown in the New Year if infection levels are not reduced 'substantially'

Professor Neil Ferguson has warned that the UK could face another lockdown in the New Year if infection levels are not driven down following a second national lockdown.  The Imperial College epidemiologist, nicknamed 'Professor Lockdown', said driving rates of infection down 'substantially' during the lockdown could see a relaxation of measures over the Christmas and could 'pose some risks'. The scientist went on to describe how 'on-off measures' were to be anticipated amid a pandemic and it would be 'quite possible' for measures to be revisited in early January.    His comments come after Boris Johnson was on Saturday catapulted into announcing a total four-week shutdown for England from Thursday until December 2 amid a rise in coronavirus cases across the nation. Imperial College epidemiologist Professor Neil Ferguson has warned that the UK could face another lockdown in early January Speaking to Times Radio Breakfast he said: 'If we can dr

A nation divided: How families have been torn apart by politics including son who cut mom out of his life for voting for Trump, and a woman whose Republican brother didn't tell her that her mother had died because she is a Democrat

Families from all over America who say they've been torn apart because of their opposing political beliefs during the Donald Trump era have voiced concern relations may never be reconciled, even after he leaves office. Among the concerned is lifelong Democrat Mayra Gomez, who said her 21-year-old son cut her completely out of his life five-months-ago when she told him she'd be voting for Trump in Tuesday's presidential election.    'He specifically told me, "You are no longer my mother, because you are voting for Trump",' Gomez, 41, a personal care worker in Milwaukee, told Reuters.  Gomez described their final conversation as so bitter she is not sure they can ever patch things over, even if Trump loses his re-election bid.   'The damage is done. In people's minds, Trump is a monster. It's sad. There are people not talking to me anymore, and I'm not sure that will change,' Gomez said. Trump's election in 2016 sowed wide division am

Cities board up and brace for post-election riots and looting as Australia and Canada tell their citizens to steer clear (except they are already banned because of COVID)

Businesses across America are boarding up their windows ahead of potential chaos following tomorrow's election as special police units prepare to tackle looters and rioters and foreign governments warn people not to visit the US for fear of civil unrest.   In cities all over the country on Monday, retailers, offices and art galleries were putting plywood on their windows to protect their inventory ahead of tomorrow night's election and the mayhem it might spark.  While many offices remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a small number of doctors and dentists offices are quietly telling patients that they will close on November 4.  New York's restaurants and bars - which are still struggling to recover after being forced closed for months - are waiting gingerly to see what unfolds. Many are likely to pull their outdoor dining furniture inside but remain open in the hope of some business, according to industry experts.  Small retailers are 'scared' of the potenti
