Nicola Sturgeon says she could make it ILLEGAL for Scots to travel far from home as she attempts to tackle coronavirus outbreak

Nicola Sturgeon threatened to criminalise Scots who travel far from home today as she warned of a toughening up of Scottish Covid laws. The First Minister said she is considering legally enforcing travel restrictions in the country, with an announcement expected next week, to prevent coronavirus spreading to areas of low prevalence. It came as the number of daily coronavirus deaths in Scotland hit its highest level since May. People in Level 3 areas of Scotland are currently advised to avoid leaving their local authority boundaries unless essential, while those in areas with lower levels are told to 'minimise unnecessary journeys between areas in different levels'. Scots are also advised to avoid unnecessary travel to other parts of the UK. Appearing in front of the Scottish Parliament's Covid-19 Committee this morning, alongside interim chief medical officer Dr Gregor Smith, Ms Sturgeon said: 'Clearly, we have travel restrictions in place. In terms of guidance, we are

Boris Johnson and Dominic Raab awkwardly dodge criticising Donald Trump for 'threatening to stop votes' as Number 10 says the PM watched 'quite a lot' of last night's TV coverage of the battle for the White House

Boris Johnson and Dominic Raab today awkwardly dodged criticising Donald Trump after he threatened a legal battle over the outcome of the US election.  Mr Trump raised the prospect of dragging the result of the poll through the courts as the contest with Joe Biden came down to a handful of battleground states. The White House incumbent falsely claimed he had won and also made unsubstantiated claims of a 'fraud on the American public' as he appeared to vow to go to the US Supreme Court to get vote counting stopped.   His comments prompted outcry from critics but the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary refused to be drawn as the UK Government anxiously waits for the final verdict. The matter was raised at PMQs by Sir Keir Starmer who asked Mr Johnson to 'join me in saying that it is not for a candidate to decide which votes do and don't count, or when to stop counting'. But Mr Johnson declined to get involved as he replied: 'Of course, we don't comment as a U

Furious Theresa May leads Tory assault on lockdown plan accusing Boris of using the 'wrong' projection of 4,000 deaths a day to shore up his case - as PM scuttles out of House after begging mutinous MPs to back him saying the NHS could 'collapse' otherwise

Theresa May led a furious Tory assault on the national lockdown plan today accusing the government of mangling figures to force the policy through. The former PM delivered a damning assessment of Boris Johnson's handling of the situation, saying a controversial claim that deaths could hit 4,000 a day by next month was 'wrong before it was even used'. She said Mr Johnson - who scuttled out of the Commons as she started speaking - must open up to more scrutiny, warning that the extraordinary national restrictions coming into force at midnight will 'shatter livelihoods'. The intervention came as a slew of Conservative MPs vowed to rebel, despite the premier begging them to trust him, insisting he cannot 'risk British lives' by avoiding action.  Kicking off the stormy debate, the PM said he never thought he would be imposing such draconian measures - including ordering people to stay at home and shutting non-essential retail, bars and restaurants for a month.
