Sadiq Khan warns Covid pandemic has created an 'existential threat' to central London because commuters will choose to work in offices in suburbs in future

The coronavirus pandemic has created an 'existential threat' to central London, mayor Sadiq Khan warned today.   In an interview, the mayor admitted that the change in working life brought about by the pandemic 'keeps him awake at night', particularly the fear that more commuters will choose to work in the suburbs rather than the city.  It comes amid surveys which have suggested that people who have worked from home since March would now be reluctant to go back to their long commutes into packed city centres.  Separate data has reveled a rise in house prices in suburbs around the capital, with people moving out of flats and city accommodation for more space outside London.  Surveys have suggested that people who have worked from home since March would now be reluctant to go back to their long commutes into packed city centres Sadiq Khan has admitted he fears that the pandemic has created an 'existential threat' to central London Mr Khan told the Observer New Rev

Up to 2,000 British ski instructors are facing the end of their careers after Brexit as government revokes agreement allowing them to work in the EU after December 31

Around 2,000 Britons who live and work at ski resorts could be forced to return home after the government revoked an agreement allowing them to work in the EU after December 31.  The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has withdrawn from the Eurotest, the common training test that Britain helped to develop which qualifies ski instructors in Europe.  This means that top level ski instructors can remain in the EU but all others will have to return to the UK after December 31.  As a result many instructors are hastily trying to complete the test - a giant slalom time trial - before the end of the year.  Among those affected are Natasha Edwards, 31, and Emma Spruce, 26, who have spent years teaching tourists and thousands of pounds to prepare for a final test which might not even count for anything.  Natasha Edwards, 31, from Cheltenham, and Emma Spruce, 26, from Fareham. However, small venues in Victoria will have the distance relaxed to two-square metres indoors with a cap of 50 people in total.  Celebrity chef and restaurateur Luke Mangan wants NSW to open up Businesses have told NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian that they want more freedoms in the important trading period leading up to Christmas The hospitality industry is now lobbying for New South Wales to ease the four-square-meter rule in time for the Christmas rush.  Chef Luke Mangan who owns restaurants in Sydney and on P&O cruise ships said doubling capacity und

Michigan House leader says Trump DIDN'T ask seven Republican legislators to 'break law' or 'interfere' in election results during White House meeting that ended with them drinking champagne at the Trump hotel

President Donald Trump did not ask Michigan Republican lawmakers to 'break the law' or 'interfere' with the election during a meeting at the White House, a legislative leader said Sunday, a day before canvassers plan to meet about whether to certify Joe Biden's 154,000-vote victory in the battleground state. Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield was among seven Republican legislators who met with Trump for about an hour on Friday, amid his longshot efforts to block Biden's win. Afterward part of the group was spotted by a reporter sipping Dom Perignon at Trump's D.C. hotel property.  'There was this outrage that the president was going to ask us to break the law, he was going to ask us to interfere, and that just simply didn't happen,' he told Fox News of the highly unusual meeting.  House Speaker Lee Chatfield and Rep. Jim Lilly were photographed on Friday night indulging in a bottle of Dom Perignon at the hotel's Benjamin Bar & Lounge Th

Hawaii’s most inaccessible island with just 75 residents is the last-COVID free county in the US – 155 years after it was used to quarantine infectious disease patients

A secluded community on Hawaii's most 'inaccessible' island is the last coronavirus-free county in the United States - 155 years after the region was used to isolate patients with Hansen's disease, or leprosy. Nestled on the island of Moloka‘i, the 12 residents of the Kalaupapa settlement of Kalawao County, which has 75 residents, have so far escaped the ravages of the coronavirus.   The county has recorded a shocking zero cases and zero deaths throughout the entirety of the pandemic - a commendable feat as the U.S. reports 12million cases and 255,000 deaths.  ABC 7 said that in May, 231 of the country's 3,143 counties had remained case free since the first report in January.
