Desperate search resumes for 67-year-old grandmother left 'isolated by Victoria's coronavirus lockdown' after she was mysteriously spotted on a walk in the middle of the night

Susan Shaw was last seen by police at 1.40am on Friday  The desperate search for a 67-year-old grandmother who went on a late-night walk three days ago has resumed, amid fears she was left isolated during lockdown. Susan Shaw was last seen by police about 4km up Mount Donna Buang Road in the Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne, at 1.40am on Friday. When officers asked if she was alright, the outdoors enthusiast insisted she was just out for a walk up the mountain. Search efforts by more than 100 people over the weekend were hampered by wet weather, limiting visibility in dense terrain. But police scouring the area on Monday remain hopeful with forecasters predicting warm weather with clear skies. Ms Shaw's son Kane Cashmore said his mother went missing after having dinner with her grandchildren at 5pm on Thursday.   Police scouring the area on Monday remain hopeful with forecasters predicting warm weather with clear skies. Seven foreign criminals who should be deported walk free EACH DAY: New figures reveal 2,552 such offenders have been freed in the past year

Seven foreign criminals a day are being released from prison on to Britain's streets instead of being deported. Figures show 2,552 have been freed into the community in the past 12 months after completing jail sentences. In total, a record 9,987 foreign national offenders are now living in the community, Home Office data reveals. It is up more than 150 per cent on the number in 2012, when the total stood at less than 4,000. More than 2,600 foreign criminals have been living in the community for more than five years after completing their jail terms and more than 3,400 have been on the streets for 12 months or more. The day I scooped the world... with news that men had reached the top of it! Jan Morris - formerly James - relives how she broke the story, from the slopes of Everest, that mankind had finally conquered its summit

On Saturday, in a extract from the late Jan Morris's mesmerising memoirs, one of Britain's best-loved travel writers revealed her remarkable transition from man to woman.  Here, she describes an altogether different journey — one that would be remembered as one of the greatest adventures on Earth... My professional life began with an imperial exploit. On May 29, 1953, Mount Everest, Chomolungma, the supreme mountain of the world, was climbed for the first time by Sir John Hunt's British expedition. It included two New Zealanders, a famous Sherpa mountaineer from the Everest foothill country and a team of Sherpa high-altitude porters.  I went with them on behalf of The Times, as the only reporter with the expedition, and the experience provided me with my one big scoop (pictured: Morris in radio contact)  I went with them on behalf of The Times, as the only reporter with the expedition, and the experience provided me with my one big scoop (as we called it in those days). Trump tells Biden to 'get well soon' after he fractured his foot while playing with German Shepherd Major and his doctor revealed he would need a walking boot for several weeks

President Donald Trump told Joe Biden on Sunday night to 'get well soon' after the president-elect fractured his ankle while playing with his German Shepherd Major. Biden suffered the injury on Saturday and visited an orthopedist at Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists in Newark, Delaware, for an examination Sunday afternoon, his office said.  As Biden, who will likely be wearing a walking boot for several weeks, was getting ready to leave the doctor's office, he was photographed by NBC News getting into a vehicle.  Trump later retweeted NBC's video and surprisingly wrote to Biden: 'Get well soon!'    Scroll down for video   President-elect Joe Biden (left and right with Major in 2018) fractured his foot while playing with his dog Major and will require a walking boot for several weeks, according to his doctor As Biden, who will likely be wearing a walking boot for several weeks, was getting ready to leave the doctor's office, he was photographed by NBC News ge

That's dam clever! Beavers build their first water barrier in Exmoor for 400 years as they create 'instant wetland' just nine months after being introduced to slow the flow of the river

Beavers have built their first dam in Exmoor in more than 400 years, after river restoration by the National Trust. The animals, which constructed it at the Holnicote Estate near Minehead, are the first to be released into the wild by the trust in its 125-year history. Footage shows the beavers gnawing nearby trees and collecting vegetation. Rangers described the rodents as 'ecosystem engineers', as nine months after they were introduced to slow the flow of water and improve river quality, they have created an 'instant wetland'. Beaver dams, ponds and channels help human communities too - by preventing flooding through slowing, storing and filtering water as

Government reveals plans to ‘revolutionise’ farming with payments to protect the environment, produce free-range goods and ‘restore the landscape’ replacing costly EU subsidies

The Government has announced plans to overhaul the country's farming industry by introducing environmental incentives which will replace the costly EU subsidies after Brexit.   In the biggest change to farming in more than 50 years, the subsidies will be phased out and replaced with payments to protect the environment and introducing more sustainable farming practices. The Government says the plan is to deliver 'a better, fairer farming system in England' which will transform the way farmers are supported over a seven-year period. Under the new scheme, farmers will be rewarded for environmental measures such as restoring habitats, producing free-range eggs and minimising animal suffering. This will replace the EU's Common Agricultural Policy which sees farmers paid subsidies in accordance with how much land they own.  Environment Secretary George Eustice will spell out today how the subsidies will be cut from next year and will be gone by 2028.
