Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson faces calls to stand aside from duties after being arrested with four others in bribery and witness intimidation probe
Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson appears to be resisting calls to stand aside from his duties after he was arrested along with four others in connection with bribery and witness intimidation. Mr Anderson was among a group of people detained on Friday by detectives investigating fraud allegations linked to building contracts. He was interviewed for six hours before being released on bail, saying in a statement that he will continue to 'cooperate'. Labour has suspended Mr Anderson while the investigation continues, and local opponents are demanding he gives up 'all official duties until cleared or convicted'. Former Labour MP for Liverpool Walton Peter Kilfoyle told MailOnline the mayor needs to step aside while 'this whole mess is sorted out'. However, the 62-year-old - who has not been charged - has yet to give any indication that he will bow to the pressure.
