Iran hangs journalist who inspired 2017 anti-government protests after luring him out of exile in Paris and kidnapping him

Iran on Saturday executed an exiled journalist over his online work that helped inspire nationwide economic protests in 2017.  Ruhollah Zam, 47, was killed a little more than a year after authorities tricked him into traveling to Iraq, where he was abducted. Zam was one of several opposition figures successfully seized by Iranian intelligence operatives abroad in recent months as Tehran struggles under the weight of U.S. sanctions. Kidnapping and executing Zam, who lived in Paris under what Iran described as French government protection, likely will further chill an already-scattered Iranian opposition across the West.  The 2017 protests, which continued into 2018, represented the biggest challenge to Iran's rulers since the 2009 Green Movement protests and set the stage for similar mass unrest in November of last year.  Iran on Saturday executed an exiled journalist over his online work that helped inspire nationwide economic protests in 2017. Lorries queue for 10 miles on OTHER side of the Channel as lorry drivers try to deliver essential goods before a January 1 no-deal Brexit

Lorries are queuing for 10 miles on the other side of the Channel as lorry drivers try to deliver essential goods before an impending no-deal Brexit on January 1. There have been 50 percent more heavy goods vehicles on the roads leading to the Channel crossing in the last three weeks, sources close to the president of the Hauts-de-France region, home to Calais, have said. 'November and December are always busy months, but extreme stockpiling because businesses are trying to get goods into the UK before 1 January is the main cause,' the source said, according to The Guardian. Some queues have been backing up for 10 miles 'Normally we have about 6,000 trucks, but now it is about 9,000. France allows care home residents to spend time with their families over Christmas even if they are POSITIVE for Covid in new rules to fight loneliness

French care home residents will be allowed to spend time with their families over Christmas in a bid to tackle loneliness - even if they test positive for Covid-19. The relaxed rules will be in place between December 15 and January 3 and have been deemed 'essential' to maintain family ties and fight loneliness. News of France's policy comes amid a raging row over care home rules in the UK - with many slamming lockdown visitor bans for causing severe damage to pensioners' mental health. Last month it was revealed that Britain may also see relaxed care home rules around Christmas - with the Cabinet Office suggesting that residents can be one of the three-households in a family's Christmas bubble.  French care home residents will be allowed to spend time with their families over Christmas in a bid to tackle loneliness - even if they test positive for Covid-19. So how does someone just vanish in 2020? For a wealthy businesswoman like Melissa Caddick, 'disappearing' and starting a new life is easier than you would think

No one knows for sure what exactly happened when businesswoman Melissa Caddick disappeared from her cliffside mansion last month.   But detectives are taking claims that the mother-of-one, 49, may have run off and doesn't want to be found seriously. At least two sources interviewed by police believe it's a credible scenario, although Daily Mail Australia has established that her passport is in detectives' hands.  Ms Caddick vanished two days after she had been raided by authorities over claims she swindled investors in her wealth management company of up to $40 million.   Kate Tejano, a close friend of Ms Caddick's husband Anthony Koletti, has publicly suggested she chose to disappear 'for a couple of weeks while she figures out what's going on.' Ms Tejano admitted it was 'just an assumption' - and the idea Ms Caddick 'pulled a runner' remains just a theory.  Someone could have harmed her, she could have harmed herself, or something else coul

12 staff sue Illinois dental practice for $500K after a hygienist 'hid two cameras in the unisex bathroom'

An Illinois dental practice is being sued by its staff after a newly-hired dental hygienist was arrested and charged with hiding secret cameras in the bathrooms. Fourteen employees are seeking $50,000 each in damages from Aspen Dental Management in Crestwood, a town 20 miles southwest of Chicago. They accuse the clinic of negligence in hiring, supervising and retaining Armani Alexander in his position, arguing that his previous criminal record should have raised red flags. The employees say that one camera was discovered in a unisex employees bathroom on October 22, and it was handed to police. Alexander, 25, 'admitted to placing the camera' in the bathroom and was arrested that day, the court papers say. The office assured the workers that they swept the premises and did not find any more cameras. However, four days later a second camera was found in the same bathroom. A dental hygienist hired in August, Armani Alexander, 25, admitted to hiding the cameras Fourteen employees a

Another 519 die from Covid - a rise of 122 on last week's death toll as total killed by virus goes past 64,000 while a further 21,502 test positive

Another 519 people have died from Covid-19 as a further 21,502 tested positive for the virus. It means the number of Britons lost to the disease has hit 64,025, with overall infections since March at 1,830,957. The NHS England figures are up by 122 on last Saturday, when 397 were recorded to have died, as well as yesterday's tally of 275. Other data for recent Saturdays include 479 on November 28, 341 on November 21 and 462 on November 14. Patients who died over the last 24 hours were aged between 38 and 102. All except 11, aged between 63 and 93, had known underlying health conditions. It comes as councils under England's toughest coronavirus restrictions are to roll out quick result community testing programmes in a bid to cut Covid-19 transmission rates this winter. An initial wave of some 67 local authorities for Tier 3 areas have received Government approval for testing schemes to help put them on a path towards relaxing local measures.
