Trump issues 20 pardons: President grants clemency to four Blackwater guards convicted of massacre of 17 Iraqi civilians, two people convicted of lying to Russia probe and three Republicans

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a wave of pre-Christmas pardons that included two people convicted of lying to U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller during the Russia investigation.  The announcement came just minutes before the president seemed to threaten to veto the COVID-19 stimulus package that Congress passed almost 24 hours earlier, leading to accusations that he was 'burying bad news'.  He told lawmakers to boost checks for Americans to $2,000 and make other modifications after sitting out talks for months.  Trump called the bill 'a disgrace' and said he may leave Americans waiting even longer for the much-needed financial relief by using his veto if another more 'suitable bill' wasn't sent to him.  Trump's words caused shock just after the White House revealed he had granted full pardons to 15 people, including three former Republican lawmakers, and commuted all or part of the sentences of five others.  Other lame duck pardons included

Operation prawn cocktail: Supermarkets resort to FLYING IN fresh lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and citrus fruits as German airline Lufthansa transports 80 tonnes of goods to UK amid Kent border chaos

German airline Lufthansa today flew in 80 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables into the UK for Tesco, Sainsbury's, the Co-op and Aldi as thousands of lorries remained stranded at the Kent border.  The airlift, which included lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, citrus fruits, and strawberries, came as Tesco began rationing several items and experts warned today's border reopening did not come soon enough to prevent shortages.   The Food and Drink Federation said there would be 'significant disruption' to supermarket supplies from next week, including shortages of fresh fruit and vegetables.  The requirement to test all drivers heading to Europe means that the backlog is taking time to clear, delaying the speed at which lorries can restock on the Continent before returning to Britain.    The Road Haulage Association said chaos at Dover will probably last until Boxing Day with between 100 and 300 tests being carried out per hour at Manston Airport amid estimates between 8,000
