The US government will now require all airline passengers arriving from the United Kingdom to test negative for COVID-19 starting Monday.  A new mutant strain of the virus that is 70 percent more infectious is spreading in Britain, prompting many countries to shut their borders to travelers from there. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a statement Thursday that all airline passengers arriving from the UK must test negative within 72 hours of departure.  Their decision marked a turnaround after the Trump administration told U.S. airlines on Tuesday it was not planning to require any testing for arriving UK passengers.   Earlier on Thursday, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines said they were requiring all passengers on flights from the United Kingdom to the United States to present a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure. The first Black Briton to vote: Amazing story of runaway slave who was feted by high society, painted by Gainsborough and became leading slavery abolitionist is recalled as rare first edition of his life story goes up for auction

A rare first edition of one of the earliest accounts of 18th-century slavery, written by the first known Black Briton to have voted in England, will go under the hammer in the New Year. Charles Ignatius Sancho's 1782 two-volume book The Letters of the Late Ignatius Sancho, an African is one of the earliest accounts of slavery written in English from a first-hand experience.  Published two years after his death, the 160 letters tell the inspiring life-story of Sancho,  who was born on a slave ship in the Atlantic in around 1729 and sold into slavery in the Spanish colony of New Grenada. Gaining fame in London society at the time for his ferocious denunciation of slavery and the slave trade, Sancho later became a symbol of the humanity of Africans and the morality of abolitionism.  The rare text, which is from the library of Spetchley Park in Worcestershire, home to the Berkeley family for over 400 years, documents domestic life and the political and social unrest of 18th-century Bri

Britons are throwing away £2,675 in rotten food every year because they don't know it needs to go in the fridge, research reveals

Britons throw out 42 per cent of the food they buy each year - meaning £2,675 worth just goes in the bin, researchers have revealed.   The main cause of food wastage is thought to be because people don't know how they should be storing their shopping, according to researchers working with Samsung. Figures revealed the UK is conflicted over where to store common kitchen staples - in the fridge or on the counter - and amid fears of possible panic buying during the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic it is particularly important to ensure food stays fresher for longer.  In a study of 20,000 people across 11 countries Switzerland wasted the most, closely followed by Norway, Italy and France.  Of the food purchased by Brits, 42 per cent is thrown away, equating to £2,675 of food in the bin each year.
