Top GP warns that Boris Johnson's U-turn on Covid-19 second jab could cause 'disastrous' waste of Pfizer vaccine

A leading family doctor has warned there is a 'real risk' that doses of the Pfizer vaccine could go to waste this week because of the Government's last-minute change on the second jab. Dame Clare Gerada, a former chairman of the Royal College of General Practitioners and a practising GP, said the timing of the decision to delay the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine for the elderly from 21 days to 12 weeks was 'wrong.' She added that because of the difficulties in contacting about one million elderly people to cancel their second jab and arrange new appointments for others, many doses could be lost – spelling a 'disaster.' Her comments came as members of the Doctors' Association described the decision to delay the dose as a 'gamble', which could dent public confidence in the entire vaccination programme. Almost one million Britons, mostly in their 80s and older, were due to receive the booster dose over coming days.  A leading family doctor has wa

'I waved to Dad as he rode out... then I heard a huge boom': Her father was a cavalry hero killed in the Hyde Park IRA bombing. Now, as a court orders the alleged perpetrator to pay her £715,000, she describes the heartbreak that drives her bid for justice

Nose pressed against the nursery window, Sarah Jane Young’s last sight of her young cavalryman father 38 years ago is scorched into her memory. She remembers the excitement of watching her dad and his friends, all ‘looking nice in their uniforms’, calming their horses, which were playing up; and him turning round, looking up and waving to her as he rode through the gates of London’s Knightsbridge Barracks that July morning in 1982. Then the kind of horror no four-year-old child should witness. ‘I remember hearing a big bang, feeling the window shake on my cheek, seeing wounded soldiers coming back with bloodied uniforms, one with a nail embedded in his hand,’ says Sarah Jane, who at the age of 42 is still haunted by what she saw. All Sarah Jane has ever wanted is justice for her father and recognition in the British courts of the deep trauma she suffered the day her father, Lance Corporal Jeffrey Young, 19, was killed by an IRA car bomb ‘Then feeling frightened and the teacher taking

The exact amount of money you need to save by your age: Terrifying study shows what you should have stashed away by the end of each decade - and it's bad news for 80 per cent of Aussies

Around 80 per cent of Australians are not saving enough to live well in retirement, new figures reveal. Research by Canstar showed that women in their 60s are the worst off when it comes to their superannuation, recording an average balance of $154,896 when $430,000 is needed for a comfortable retirement. Australians in that age bracket did not contribute to a super account during the first 10 years of their working lives. SolarWinds cybersecurity expert warned management in 2017 about risk of 'catastrophic' breach - as it's revealed cost-saving move to Eastern Europe could have exposed firm to major Russian hack

A cybersecurity adviser says he warned SolarWinds of a potential 'catastrophic' hacking attack if the company didn't amp up internal security measures three years before Russians compromised their software. Ian Thornton-Trump, a former cybersecurity adviser at the firm, also claims the firm's moving of some operations to Eastern Europe may have exposed it to the massive Russian hack.  In late December it was revealed that the sprawling cyber-espionage attack led by state-backed Russian hackers affected more than 250 US federal agencies and private companies beginning as early as October 2019, but went undetected for months.  In the breach, hackers gained access to government and private networks by inserting malicious code in recent versions of SolarWinds' premier software product, Orion.    Thornton-Trump said he urged management in 2017 to take a more aggressive approach with its internal security, warning that a cybersecurity episode would be 'catastrophic

QAnon Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene refuses to wear a mask at House swearing-in ceremony sparking 'screaming match' between Dems and Republican staffers - then poses on Twitter wearing 'Trump Won' face covering

QAnon-supporting Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene refused to wear a mask at the House of Representatives' swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, despite multiple requests from House floor staff. Greene and another Republican being sworn into office as a part of the incoming Congress class were told to put masks on but refused to comply on Capitol Hill, Politico's Jake Sherman reported Sunday. He revealed Republican and Democratic floor staff got into 'a screaming match on the floor', adding, 'So this Congress is going great already.'  He said Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, who is a Trump ally who supports the president's bid to overturn the election results, also stood on the floor maskless.  Greene hit back on Twitter, tweeting 'Well I actually do have a mask,' posting a selfie of her wearing a black mask that said 'TRUMP WON.'  QAnon supporting Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene refused to wear a mask at Sunday's Congressional swearing-in

Businessman, 60, his wife, 55, and their son, 18, are killed when their small plane crashes into Michigan home and bursts into flames - as family-of-five inside escape unharmed

A small plane flying from Georgia crashed into a house and burst into flames in southeastern Michigan, killing the pilot, his wife and son on board.  The crash took place Saturday around 4pm when the single-engine Piper PA-24 plane suddenly plummeted into a two-story home, just north of the Oakland/Southwest Airport in Lyon Township, Michigan. David S. Compo, 60, his wife Michelle, 55, and their 18-year-old son Dawson died in the fiery crash, the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan said Saturday night.  Compo had just retired as president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan on New Years Eve. Compo, an experienced pilot, had flown to Canton, Georgia on December 29 and the family was returning home to Michigan in their private plane on Saturday when the tragedy struck.  A family-of-five was inside the home when the plane hit, but escaped unharmed. But the residence was severely damaged by fire in Lyon Township, located 40 miles northwest of Detroit.
