Covid-19 jabs are AXED as GPs are hit by hold-ups to supplies of the vaccine, forcing them to cancel appointments for the elderly

Elderly people are having desperately-needed Covid vaccination appointments cancelled because doctors have not received their stocks on time. Patients around the country who had been booked in to get their first jab have since been contacted to be told they must wait longer. Many GPs say they have still not got their first batch of the vaccine despite been promised them before Christmas. Some say they have had several cancelled deliveries. Frontline NHS staff are also missing out on vaccinations. In one case, workers queued for hours outside a hospital only to have their appointments cancelled due to a scheduling blunder. Patients around the country who had been booked in to get their first jab have since been contacted to be told they must wait longer It has prompted fresh fears that Boris Johnson will be unable to keep his promise of getting 13 million of the most vulnerable Britons protected by the middle of next month. Batting above his average? Steve Smith's wife Dani exposes the cricket superstar's bedroom antics ahead of the Sydney Test - and they're not as steamy as you might think

The wife of legendary cricketer Steve Smith has revealed just what the batsman does in their bedroom on the night before a Test match. Dani Smith filmed her husband dressed head to toe in his match whites shadow batting at the end of the bed while the Big Bash League played on the TV behind him on Wednesday night. The pair were forced to spend more than four months apart while Smith, 31, travelled around the world playing for Australia, with the couple only managing to reunite for New Year's Eve. Steve Smith was filmed shadow batting at the end of his bed 'Like a kid on Christmas Eve,' Dani captioned the Instagram story.  The batsman replied to the hilarious footage on his own Instagram, sharing the video and captioning it: 'Sometimes you've just got to shadow bat in full kit to get the feel'. The couple weren't able to spend Christmas together because Dani was denied entry into the Cricket Australia team camp in Melbourne due to new Covid-19 restrictions.

'Put Covid-19 jabs first': Medics' leaders say routine appointments must go on hold in bid to vaccinate Britain against coronavirus

GPs are being urged to 'stand down' routine appointments so they can prioritise Covid vaccinations, it was claimed last night. Guidance sent to doctors says the jabs should be their top priority – with other 'non-essential' activities postponed, potentially for weeks. NHS England has already advised surgeries to focus on the delivery of the vaccine by prioritising jab appointments over anything else. The British Medical Association, the trade body for doctors, is also telling GPs to 're-prioritise and postpone other activities' in the coming weeks, The Daily Telegraph reported last night. Its guidance suggests health workers should 'stand down non-essential work' – unless urgent – to accelerate the pace of the rollout. The masterchef with an insatiable appetite for women: He was the French butcher's son who baked Churchill's birthday cake - and changed Britain's culinary tastes for ever. As Albert Roux dies at 85, RICHARD KAY looks back at his saucy story

But for the clammy embrace of an elderly priest, the culinary fortunes of this country might never have been the same.  As a boy of 14, Albert Roux was training for the priesthood in his native France when an unholy encounter with a 'smelly' man of the cloth saw him switch from clerical robes to chef's whites. It was the most providential change of direction for his adopted country, Britain, whose eating habits he would change for ever. It was also a wise decision. 'I would have made a very bad priest because I am — was — a philanderer,' said the restaurateur, who has died aged 85. 'Imagine myself visiting a nunnery, that would have been bad . . .' Indeed, Roux's weakness for women was as pronounced as the rich soufflé suissesse that was among his signature dishes. MPs back lockdown until the end of MARCH by 524 votes to 16 as Boris Johnson sees off rebellion from Tories demanding a strict end date to new curbs

Boris Johnson saw off his Tory critics tonight as MPs voted the latest strict lockdown measures into law. The Prime Minister saw off a small rebellion by backbenchers who accused him of launching an 'assault on liberty and livelihoods' as they warned lockdown will inevitably cause some people to 'break'.  But with Labour vowing to back the Government, the result was always a foregone conclusion and the new regulations were passed by 524 votes to 16, a majority of 508.  Twelve Tories voted against the Government, including Graham Brady, the chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee, and former ministers Esther McVey and Desmond Swayne.  Mr Johnson had earlier warned there will not be a 'big bang' release from the latest national lockdown next month. The Prime Minister's national shutdown, which includes a strict stay at home message and the closure of schools, is due to be reviewed in the middle of February but the laws underpinning it are not due to expire un

£1bn profit is raked in on parking fees: Councils are accused of milking 'cash cow' motorists as record annual figure is revealed

Councils were accused of using motorists as ‘cash cows’ last night after raking in a record £1billion in parking charges. The staggering sum includes the cost of car parks and street permits after some cash-strapped councils raised prices by up to 230 per cent. It also includes the cash from parking fines issued by armies of traffic wardens working for the more than 350 local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales. REVEALED: The Dating Game producer tried to stop serial killer Rodney Alcala appearing on show in 1978 because he had a 'strange personality' - but colleagues oblivious to his murder spree said the 'audience will love him'

Serial killer Rodney Alcala’s infamous appearance on the legendary television show The Dating Game in 1978 was nearly up-ended by an executive who didn’t want him to appear on screen because he thought the bachelor had a ‘strange personality’. Former executive producer of the show Mike Metzger revealed the backroom conflict over Alcala’s viability as a contestant on ABC’s brand new 20/20 documentary, The Dating Game Killer, which airs on Friday, January 8 at 9:00 pm ET. Mike says Ellen Metzger, the show’s then-contestant coordinator who later became his wife, pushed him to allow Alcala to appear in an episode after his audition because she thought he was ‘handsome’. ‘I don’t know, he was just very striking,’ Ellen Metzger reflects in a clip obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com. ‘There was a boldness about him. He had long black hair – he was just a striking looking person.’ Alcala later appeared on the Dating Game in September 1978 when he was in the midst of a brutal murdering spree.
