'Are you for real?!' Moment stunned Waffle House server is reduced to tears after getting $1k tip from customer who lost fantasy football bet and had to spend 24 hours eating inside the restaurant

A Waffle House employee was reduced to tears in Georgia after a man who lost a fantasy football bet and had to spend 24 hours eating inside the restaurant surprised her with a $1,000 tip. Michael Carsley, of Atlanta, made the generous donation to server Mosammat Shumi last weekend during a live broadcast on Facebook in a chain of the eatery in Chamblee. The 32-year-old salesman had been inside the restaurant for several hours on January 3, attempting to finish off as many waffles as he could. Carsley had been banished to the restaurant as part of a forfeit chosen by his friends after he came last in their fantasy football league. He had been instructed to eat inside the Waffle House for 24 hours, but with every waffle eaten, he was allowed to shave one hour off his punishment time. Describing the forfeit as grueling, Carsley insisted he would do it all over again if he could, just to relive Shumi's reaction. ‘All around in was a spectacular thing. The punishment was absolutely horr

Chaos over schools advice for parents: Matt Hancock is accused of mixed messaging after saying pupils should only be sent to classes as a last resort

Confused messaging by the Government has been blamed for fuelling the large numbers of children in school during lockdown. As attendance rates reached 60 per cent in some schools, experts have said teachers will be considered for special status when a plan to distribute millions more vaccines is published next month. Head teachers have complained about being left in an ‘impossible situation’ by being forced to stop some children from attending school in order to comply with social distancing rules. Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared to muddy official guidance yesterday, saying that if only one parent in a household is a key worker then children should not go to school. Mexico farmers discover complete six-foot-tall female sculpture with elaborate hairpiece in a citrus field dating back to 1450-1521 AD

Farmers digging in a citrus grove near Mexico's Gulf coast have found a striking, six-foot-tall statue of a female figure who may represent an elite woman rather than a goddess, or some mixture of the two, experts said Friday. The National Institute of Anthropology and History said it was the first such statue found in a region known as the Huasteca. The carved woman has an elaborate hairpiece and marks of status, and may date to around 1450 to 1521, the institute said.  While the site where it was found is nearer to the pre-Hispanic ruin site of El Tajín, the statue shows some influences of the Aztecs. Care home bosses fear betrayal over Covid-19 jabs: Just one in ten vulnerable residents has been given the vaccine despite Government pledge to get them inoculated quickly

Frail residents in the nation's care homes have been betrayed by the slow rollout of the vaccine, it was claimed last night. Care providers say they have been 'left in the dark' and hit by outbreaks while waiting for jabs. Health Secretary Matt Hancock promised on December 10 that care home residents would be vaccinated by Christmas.  A month on, Boris Johnson admitted just one in ten residents had received the vaccine. But the Mail spoke to 28 providers – which together run 556 homes with around 30,000 residents – and 17 said not a single resident had been vaccinated.  Sick with worry: Alison Wright with her mother Monica Richardson Managers described 'haphazard and confusing' communication, with eight claiming they have had no details of when to expect vaccines. Worryingly, almost half – 13 – said they are currently battling coronavirus cases in their homes. Jayne Connery, director of Care Campaign for the Vulnerable, said: 'Unsurprisingly, care home residents

PGA 'to strip Trump Bedminster of 2022 PGA Championship because any affiliation with the President is poisonous', insider claims

Donald Trump's Bedminster golf course likely will be stripped of a major tournament on the 2022 PGA Tour calendar in the latest fallout from Wednesday's Capitol riot.  The decision to take away the 2022 PGA Championship - one of the sport's major tournaments - hasn't been announced yet. But Eamon Lynch of Golfweek believes the decision will likely come after Trump is out of office, though. 'The odds that ’22’s PGA Championship will happen as scheduled in New Jersey are about as good as the chances of you or I winning it,' Lynch wrote on Saturday, clearly tongue-in-cheek.
