Moscow gripped by growing Covid catastrophe: Russian capital records 144 deaths in 24 hours with officials blaming Indian variant for sweeping through vaccine-sceptic population

Moscow on Sunday recorded 144 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the worst toll in a Russian city since the start of the pandemic, according to official data.  The capital is seeing a surge in infections that authorities blame on the highly transmissible Delta variant and slow progress on the vaccination drive, with 6,723 new cases recorded on Sunday.  Moscow has been the national epicentre of the pandemic and some 2,000 people are hospitalised daily because of the virus there, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said late on Saturday in televised remarks. 'We have mobilised 20,000 beds and 14,000 of them are currently filled,' he said. The world's largest commercial sailing ship has graced the shores of Dorset this weekend for the first time. The brand new Croatian-built Golden Horizon is so big it almost completely blocked out the entrance of Portland harbour as it made its first port of call in the UK.    Pictures show the moment a two person sailing yacht appears dwarfed in comparison to the cruising vessel with five masts. The 525ft long, 8,440 tons vessel has five masts and sails totalling 6,300 sq metres.  The Golden Horizon is world's largest commercial sailing ship at 525ft long and 8,440 tons (pictured in Portland Harbour, Dorset) It is run by Tradewind Voyages of Suffolk as a commercial cruise ship and owned by shipbuilders DIV Group Ltd. Nurse, 36, who hid 'embarrassing line' on her fingernail with red nail polish for three years is told it's rare cancer and is 'lucky' it hadn't spread

A nurse who hid an 'embarrassing line' on her fingernail was told she had a rare type of cancer after stumbling across an article listing it as a symptom. Alana Severs, 36, a nurse from Portsmouth, Hampshire, ignored the tiny mark on her fingernail for years - covering it in red nail varnish to hide the line. But Mrs Severs spotted an article on Cosmopolitan magazine's website in January 2017 - detailing how a line on your nail can be a symptom of an unusual type of cancer. Panicked Mrs Severs went to her GP the next day and they sent her for an urgent referral. After a biopsy, Mrs Severs was diagnosed with melanoma and had to have two surgeries to remove the cancer. Woman living with chronic nose pain finds a TIDDLYWINK that has been lodged up her nostril for 37 years after a cheeky game with siblings as a child

A hospital worker who lived with a pain in her nose for 37 years has finally discovered the truth behind her niggling affliction - a yellow tiddlywink she got stuck up there aged 8. The pain in Mary McCarthy's nose only worsened after she got a Covid-19 test last year, which involves having a swab poked high up into both nostrils. She soon underwent surgery to find the cause of the painful irritation, with surgeons shocked to pull out a yellow tiddlywinks piece she had lodged in her nose since se was a child. The piece had been stuck up Ms McCarthy's nose for so long that calcified matter had even grown around it.  The extraction allowed the hospital kitchen worker to breathe through her right nostril for the first time in eight months, after the Covid test had lodged it further inside her nose and caused an infection, according to Stuff. The 45-year-old New Zealander was in agony after a recent Covid test - where the nasal swab had dislodged the rogue tiddlywink and caused it

Only a few weeks, Matt? Shamed former health secretary and his not-so-secret lover pictured together at Tory conference in 2019 - before she was on his payroll - as questions are asked about when their affair began

Matt Hancock is facing fresh questions about how long his affair with aide Gina Coladangelo has been going on as new pictures emerged of them together in 2019. Friends of the former health secretary insist that their adulterous relationship has only been going on a matter of weeks, after footage from the beginning of May revealed them in a clinch in his office. But suspicions about a relationship between the two, who have been friends for more than 20 years since they went to Oxford together, first emerged two years ago. The pair were pictured together repeatedly at the Conservative Party Conference, which took place in Manchester in September 2019. She is believed to have become an unpaid aide to the health secretary that year, after working for him on his failed bid to become Conservative leader and prime minister.  It was only a year later in the autumn of 2020 that she began a paid position with him at the Department of Health. And it emerged today that Ms Coladangelo was asked whe

Maroons humiliated: NSW clinch Origin series by smashing Queensland in historic 26-0 drubbing - as confusing rules see 52,000 fans told to wear masks but only when standing

New South Wales held Queensland to nil points in front of its home crowd for the first time in State of Origin history as they beat the outclassed Maroons 26-0 in Game Two on Sunday night to seal the series in emphatic fashion. After some doubts about whether the fans would be able to attend due to a new Covid-19 outbreak, most of the 52,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium were left wishing they had been banned as they watched their team get steamrolled by NSW for the second game running. After a humiliating 50-6 loss in Game 1, Queensland would need a remarkable turnaround to prevent being on the wrong end of a series whitewash since 2000, amid debate about whether it was the worst team ever to represent the Maroons.  It only took 12 minutes for the Cockroaches to cross the line with winger Josh Addo-Carr crashing over in the corner. Moment's later in the 26th minute  centre Latrell Mitchell took a length-of-the-field intercept and ran away with a four-pointer. Star centre Tom Trbojevic t
