Harvard professor who rejected using the term 'pregnant people' and insisted on using 'male' or 'female' instead is slammed by her colleague who accuses her of transphobia

A Harvard professor of evolutionary biology has been slammed by her department's diversity head for rejecting the term 'pregnant people' and insisting on referring to people as male or female instead.  Carole Hooven, who has been at the university for 20 years and received multiple teaching awards, spoke of feeling 'frustrated' at the atmosphere in academia. She told Fox News on Wednesday that she was dismayed at the insistence on politically correct terminology, which she felt was misguided.  University professors were discouraged from using the words male and female, and referring to pregnant women, she said. The terms were deemed offensive to the transgender and LGBTQ community.  'I've been feeling pretty frustrated over the last five years or so. It's been gradual,' she said. 'I don't think I should play against other women - it's not fair': Trans professional golfer Alison Perkins admits that being raised as a boy skews a level playing field

Alison Perkins turned plenty of heads when she teed off in qualifying for the 149th Open a few weeks back. It was nothing to do with the blistering drive the 47-year-old golf pro smashed nearly 300 yards down the fairway, bisecting a pair of dangerous bunkers in the process.  Neither was there anything particularly unusual about the nine over par 81 shots she took to navigate the 18 holes of Hollinwell Golf Club in Nottinghamshire, finishing half-way up the leader-board. What actually made Alison stand out from the crowd, aside from her fetching navy-blue-and-teal pleated skirt and sleeveless top (by exclusive golfwear designer J. Lindeberg) was the fact that someone called Alison was taking part in the event at all. The Open is, after all, one of the most prestigious and traditional competitions in men's golf, with a history stretching back to the Victorian era. Yet Alison, as her name suggests, is very much not a man. Though born and raised a boy, she has chosen to live as a woma

Biden pleads with states to distribute housing funds after House fails to extend eviction moratorium which expires on Sunday and affects 3.6M people

President Joe Biden urged states to push federal funds out the door Friday night as lawmakers scrambled to try to jam through legislation that would keep millions of Americans from being evicted amid an expiring ban as the Delta variant proliferates.    With no certain solution in sight, the White House released a statement late Friday urging states to act on their own to spend federal funds and encouraged states and localities to keep their own protections in place. 'As the eviction moratorium deadline approaches tomorrow, I call on all state and local governments to take all possible steps to immediately disburse these funds given the imminent ending of the CDC eviction moratorium,' Biden said.  After hours of talks failed to produce a solution, House leaders tried to bring up an extension Friday evening that would extend the existing moratorium until mid October, but a Republican objected, keeping it from coming up.  The House has no votes expected next week, leaders announc

Alarming new list of Covid exposure sites are revealed including a childcare centre, supermarkets and a string of chemists - as worrying statistic shows contact tracers are fighting a losing battle

Sydney is once again on high alert after 48 new Covid exposure sites were revealed on Saturday morning, with venues, train and bus lines spread from the city's virus-ravaged west to the inner city and eastern suburbs. Most alarmingly, some of the venues were exposed more than 10 days ago but have only just been added to the list, proving that contact tracers are faltering under the near-impossible task of tracking the outbreak as it spreads. Among the sites include a number of different chemists - including Priceline Pharmacy and Chemist Warehouse - alongside a childcare centre with times listed from 8.55am to 5.35pm. Anyone who visited the Kids Guardian Angel Childcare Centre in Lurnea, in Sydney's south-west between those times on Monday July 26 has been urged to isolate for 14 days regardless of a test result. The same rules apply to the Jumbo Thai restaurant in Pyrmont from 12.25pm to 12.40pm on Saturday July 24 and 12.55pm to 1.05pm on Monday July 26.  The long list of exp

Summer holidays in Europe are at risk as ministers threaten to put Spain, France and Italy on a new danger list - and plans for the 'amber watch list' sparks uproar in Whitehall

Families were in a fight to save summer last night with holiday hotspots in Europe facing new travel rules. Plans for an 'amber watch list' have sparked uproar in Whitehall, with some ministers warning the scheme could wreck the hopes of millions of Britons. The idea, which was agreed in principle this week, would see holidaymakers warned that while they are abroad certain amber countries could go straight on to the red list.  This would leave them facing compulsory hotel quarantine on their return, at a cost of £1,750 a head. Spain and Italy both featured in talks about countries that could be put into the new category – as soon as next week – amid fears about the Beta variant, which first emerged in South Africa.  Plans for an 'amber watch list' have sparked uproar in Whitehall, with some ministers warning the scheme could wreck the hopes of millions of Britons.
