Tube strikes are OFF: Two 24-hour walkouts due to start at lunchtime tomorrow are cancelled as unions threaten two more later this month

Planned Tube strikes which were set to cause four days of travel misery this week have been cancelled amid a public backlash.  Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union were set to stage a series of 24-hour walkouts in protest at plans to scrap the pay grade of Night Tube drivers. But talks between Transport for London and the RMT made a breakthrough and successfully averted planned strikes this week from 12pm tomorrow, and on Thursday and August 24 and 26. RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: 'Following extensive and wide ranging discussions through the ACAS machinery we have hammered out enough ground to allow those talks to continue. As a result this week's strike action is suspended although the rest of the planned action rema‎ins on. 'I want to thank our members and our reps whose unity and determination has allowed us to reach this stage today and we look forward to pursuing the important issues at the heart of this dispute in the next phase of talks.' A marshal killed after a car spun off the Brands Hatch track and hit him has been named as a former mayor and serving councillor.   Robert Foote, in his 60s, was working as a volunteer marshal on Saturday when a car spun off the famous track in Kent and hit him. The serving Epsom and Ewell Borough Councillor died from serious injuries sustained in the crash shortly before 3pm. Another person on foot and the driver of the car were taken to hospital for treatment. Clemson cornerback Fred Davis II was arrested and charged with misdemeanor reckless driving for going 60 mph over the posted speed limit in July, leading to an accident and severe injuries for one mail carrier.  The Clemson Police Department said in a release Sunday that Davis was traveling at 115 mph before colliding with a mail truck and injuring the driver on July 21. Davis turned himself in Sunday and has been released on bail. Clemson police said the mail carrier sustained severe injuries in the wreck and 'will require months or longer for recovery.' Incredible images 'showing huge crater on Israeli-linked tanker' emerge after drone strike killed two as US vows ‘appropriate response’ and UK calls Iranian ambassador to the Foreign Office

Incredible images appear to show a huge crater on an Israeli-linked oil tanker after it was struck in a deadly drone attack which killed two people including a British Army veteran off the coast of Oman.  Photographs allegedly of MV Mercer Street oil tanker show the damage inflicted on the vessel during the strike which the U.S., UK and Israel have blamed on Iran.  One image shows a huge gaping hole in the top deck of the vessel while another shows the main mast which appears to be blackened from a blast. Neither images could be independently verified.  An unidentified British serviceman, as well as a Romanian crew member, died late on Thursday night after the MV Mercer Street oil tanker was attacked by a so-called kamikaze drone, which is laden with explosives and detonates on impact with its target.    The US. blamed Iran for the attack and vowed an 'appropriate response' to the strike while the UK summoned the Iranian ambassador to the Foreign Office and warned Tehran to
