Peter Kay today received a standing ovation amid a rapturous response to his comeback charity gig, as he admitted his nerves and jokes that he was 'going away for four more years'.  Fans were on their feet to applaud the Bolton-born comic as he appeared on stage at Manchester's O2 Apollo for the first of two live Q&As. As he started the matinee performance, Kay said: 'I was a bit nervous this morning, when I got here. 'I was looking at all this and thinking 'oh my God' but it's really nice to be doing this. 'It's like getting in a hot bath.' The Doing it For Laura events are being held to raise money for Laura Nuttall, 20, who has an aggressive type of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme. Ms Nuttall, who was in the audience, was initially given 12-18 months to live when she was diagnosed aged 18 but has received immunotherapy treatment in Germany thanks to fundraising. Female sailor at center of USS Bonhomme fire report: Seaman who 'torched' Navy ship told investigators they were engaged until he dumped her for getting pregnant by another man - but she says it's all 'bipolar lies'

A female sailor who worked on the COVID Navy ship USNS Mercy dismissed the claims of the 'bipolar' seaman accused of torching the USS Bonhomme after he told friends they were engaged until he dumped her for getting pregnant by another man.  Seaman Apprentice Ryan Sawyer Mays, 20, has been charged with setting the fire on board the Bonhomme last July. His attorney says he had nothing to do with it and he is awaiting a preliminary hearing.  The ship was docked in San Diego last summer when someone set fire to it. The blaze lasted five days, with the $1.2 billion vessel scrapped, because it would have been too expensive to repair.  Newly unsealed documents this week shed more light on the Navy's case against Mays, who dropped out of SEAL training shortly before the fire.  During a ten hour interview with Navy investigators, he told them that he'd been in a romantic relationship with Petty Officer Armelle Ane.  He said they were engaged, that he had proposed at a French res

Virus experts blast 'fear-mongering' predictions of a 'doomsday' COVID variant worse than Delta and vaccine resistant

Virus experts have blasted a 'fear-mongering' article warning of a 'doomsday' COVID-19 variant which could be worse than Delta.  The doctors emphasized the effectiveness of the jab against the virus and noted that vaccine makers can quickly adjust formulas to make vaccines more effective against variants, Fox News reported. Their comments come in response to an article in Newsweek Magazine which claimed that the Delta variant has 'shattered' optimism that vaccines would help the pandemic wind down. The Newsweek Magazine article questioned: 'Is there a Doomsday variant out there that shrugs off vaccines, spreads like wildfire and leaves more of its victims much sicker than anything we've yet seen?'  'The odds are not high that we will see such a triple threat, but experts can't rule it out,' the article reads. Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist, warned 'the next variant could be Delta on steroids' An article in Newsweek Magazine
