So much for the Indian Summer! Forecasters now hint predicted late August 86F heatwave may NEVER arrive... while Europe roasts in record temperatures

The best of the Great British Summer could be over already as the Met Office warns that the searing 86F heatwaves we experienced last month are unlikely to take place for the rest of August. Just yesterday, scores of sunseekers flocked to parks and beaches as the UK enjoyed highs of 77F amid the promise of a good spell of summery weather after parts of the country were battered by heavy rain. Now forecasters at the Met Office are dampening spirits as they predict that conditions will settle down in the coming days, with no sign of scorching temperatures ahead in a blow to holidaymakers. Met Office spokesman Graham Madge said: 'Do not expect to see heatwave conditions, but dry, sunny spells for many. August has essentially been a case of mixed fortune with some areas seeing drier weather than usual, while others have virtually had a whole month of rainfall in just 10 days. 'We're not expecting to see record-breaking weather, as there have certainly been wetter Augusts in the

Personal injury lawyer is probed by Louisiana sheriff's office after boat 'he was driving' struck three children tubing on river and injured them before fleeing the scene

A personal injury lawyer is being probed by Louisiana state authorities after allegedly striking three children who were tubing while he drove his boat, before fleeing the scene.  The occupants on the party barge all fled the scene after the Aug. 8 crash at False River in New Roads, Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux told WBRZ-TV.   They did so despite two of the children in the crash requiring hospital treatment.  The victims, said to be aged between eight and 14, included an eight-year-old who was flown to the Baton Rouge hospital via AirMed with a broken pelvis, according to WAFB 9.  WBRZ says one man and some teenagers were on the boat at the time. They say he is a local personal injury lawyer, who has not been identified, and has yet to comment. Pointe Coupee Sheriff's Office have been asked why no charges have been brought against the lawyer, but say it is now in the hands of state investigators.   Witness accounts were able to identify the boat involved in the cras

Viewer outrage as CBS This Morning replaces veteran reporter Anthony Mason with ex-NFL player Nate Burleson because he's a 'better fit' with Gayle King

CBS This Morning viewers have reacted angrily to the news that veteran journalist Anthony Mason is being replaced with former NFL player Nate Burleson in an effort to boost the show's ratings and take on GMA and Today. The network announced on Wednesday that Burleson, 39, would join Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil in September as their new co-host.   Mason, 65, will then move to a cultural correspondent role, covering music, arts and entertainment.  He joined the This Morning anchor team in 2019 after working at CBS for 40 years as a news and business reporter.  But the show has trailed behind the more light-hearted competitors at NBC and ABC for years.   A CBS source told DailyMail.com on Thursday that by bringing Burleson in, it gives them a 'real chance' to compete in the ratings.  'Anthony is a nice man and an excellent journalist, he just isn’t the right fit for the morning. By pairing Nate with Gayle we have a real chance.'   CBS announced on Wednesday that Nate

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that senior Capitol Hill staff can now make nearly $200,000 annually - more than your average lawmaker - in an effort to keep top aides from heading to K Street.   The pay ceiling for aides will be moved from the $173,900 to $199,300.  The average House member makes $174,000, so their top staffers were always kept at a salary just under what their bosses brought in.  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday she was delinking lawmaker and staff pay, allowing top aides to make as much as $199,300, instead of the $173,900 they previously were allowed to bring home  Pelosi said she was delinking members salary from staff.   'This order will help the Congress recruit and retain the outstanding and diverse talent that we need, as it also helps ensure parity between employees of the House of Representatives and other employees of the Federal Government,' Pelosi said in a letter to members.  Pelosi said she had been advised to raise th
