Forget the flying squirrel, meet the tight-rope walking raccoon! Video captures critter's amazing walk above homes

An astonishing video of a raccoon tightrope walking on two legs between power lines catches the critter easily living up to its reputation as one of nature's sneakiest creatures.


Moving one claw and paw at a time while standing straight up like a human, the animal carefully shimmies between the two lines, with the excited reaction by the woman filming the stunt only adding to its charm.


'That's the raccoon, walking from one side to one side, using the telephone and the electricity pole,' she proudly points out. 'Very, very clever.'

Bizarre: What is at the end of the line for the creature is a mystery, however, as well as why it's undergoing the bizarre feat with raccoons being nocturnal creatures


With the stretch being quite a distance to cover, the raccoon takes just one break halfway in between the houses before starting up again.


But even when strong winds start shaking the wires and bending the trees, the little guy hangs on and only appears to go a little faster toward the end.






'My word. It's not scared to fall, even,' the excited woman says.


The video cuts off before its outcome is revealed, leaving the question unanswered on if he ever does makes it to the other side.


But the video begs an even larger question on how the raccoon is able climb like it is, touching two lines, without being electrocuted.

When an animal like a bird is touching only one power line, and nothing else - ground, pole, or a second wire - the high-voltage line it's standing on doesn't have a lower-voltage line or ground to transmit its power to.

The exact opposite would presumably occur if the high-voltage line is running, however, leading to death or injury.


The video has received more than 80,000 views since its posting this week.


It's said to have been filmed by the wife of the YouTube poster's coworker.
