I chose my $100,000 Superman collection over my wife...

The pair had tied the knot in 2007 in Metropolis, Illinois, because it shares the same name with Superman's home on Earth.

The ceremony took place underneath a 15-foot Superman statue with Chris in full costume, complete with the character's trademark hair curl.

While Bonnie wore a traditional white dress, her bouquet mimicked the famous 'S' symbol and they sealed the deal with Superman-engraved wedding rings.

'Other things drove us apart too, but there were times where I wouldn't spend money on bills because there was an item I would rather buy.'

'I would spend money on toys and statues and then we wouldn't have our electric or cable bills paid.'

Bonnie said: 'If you marry Chris you marry his collection.'

'There is nothing more important to him than his Superman collection.'

But heartbreak has not swayed Chris from his devotion to the Superhero. From the living room, to the kitchen, to the bathroom, everything is covered in Superman.

'Even my bathroom towels have Superman,' Chris said. From themed crockery in the kitchen to tiny action figures - the amazing stockpile took 20 years to build and includes ultra-rare collectors items.

The most expensive collectible is his own £3,600 statue, which he keeps in storage.

'The collection has taken over my whole house because I'm addicted to collecting,' Chris said.

'It started 20 years ago when I was trying to make it as a actor and working as a waiter.

'So many people told me I looked like Christopher Reeve, I went out and bought a cheap suit and decided to impersonate him.

'I started getting more and more interested in him as I learned how special he was for so many people.

'I make money from tourists who want their picture with me, and make appearances at film and TV productions as a Superman impersonator, which helps pay for my collection.'

Fanatic: Christopher's flatmate complains that he can never find his keys among all the memorabilia

Number one fan Chris also feels he shares some eerie traits with Christopher Reeve, who have played him on the big screen.

Besides sharing the same first name as actor Christopher, he is the same towering height at 6'4" and is adopted just like Superman.
Flatmate Jack says, 'Sometimes I am looking for my keys, and because there's so much Superman stuff I just can't find them.'
