Freebies or cheap deals worth millions of pounds – from discounted entry tickets to major attractions to legal advice – are to become more accessible.
To make things even easier, smartphone users will be given an electronic ‘nudge’ at the till if they are about to miss out on a deal. Despite the growing popularity of discounted or free deals, thousands still go unclaimed.
Anyone who belongs to a club, society, union, or even simply subscribes to a newspaper, will have been offered promotional deals. But while people are often attracted to them and sign up, future offers are often overlooked.
Tuesday sees the launch of iMember (imember.co.uk), which invites consumers to enter the names of organisations to which they belong and find out what deals are on offer.

In July, the service will be extended with an iPhone and Android app that will display the discounts available wherever you are.
The founder of iMember, Richard Brown, had the idea after paying for tickets to an exhibition at the Royal Academy in London, only to find out later he could have got in free as a Barclays Premier Account customer.
‘As a member of many organisations, I realised that there was a plethora of benefits and deals out there of which I had little or no knowledge,’ he says.
‘Membership deals offer money for nothing – you just have to remember you are a member.’
Brown has linked up with 10,000 major organisations, from the AA to University College London, and is adding new ones all the time.
