Despite the monumental achievement, Ocasio-Cortez faced backlash for wearing $14,000- worth of clothes in her cover shoot, prompting critics to call her a 'hypocrite' fro criticizing Trump's tax payments while wearing expensive designer outfits herself.
She posed in looks from from Aliette, Loewe, Carolina Herrera, and teetered on Christian Louboutin heels, all of which come with hefty price tags.
The Congresswoman hit back on Thursday and accused Republicans of 'wilfully acting stupid' for assuming the outfits were her own, clarifying that the clothes were borrowed for the shoot.
She also joked that they could look as good as her if they 'don't be racist'.
'Republicans are Very Mad about my appearance. This time they’re mad that I look good in borrowed clothes ,' she wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

The congresswoman blasted the criticism as 'classic Republican strategy'
'Listen, if Republicans want pointers on looking your best, I’m happy to share. Tip #1: Drink water and don’t be racist.'
The congresswoman claimed that the talk of her clothing in the shoot was all 'classic Republican strategy'.
'The whole “she wore clothes in a magazine, let’s pretend they’re hers” gimmick is the classic Republican strategy of “let’s willfully act stupid, and if the public doesn’t take our performative stupidity seriously then we’ll claim bias",' she wrote.
'GOP, get yourselves together. It’s sad.'
She also received backlash for the lengthy interview in which she called Trump a 'motherf****r' for paying only $750 in federal income tax in 2018 and labeled him a 'visionary racist'.
In the interview she compares herself to Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi, claiming they have both been made the 'boogeyman' of their party by Republicans.
She also took a large hit at Trump over the reports of his tax payments.
'These are the same people saying that we can’t have tuition-free public colleges because there’s no money when these motherf*****s are only paying $750 a year in taxes,' she said.
