Man, 24, accused of raping two women in their hotel room says they both willingly had sex with him at the same time before the 'dominant' one left him 'covered in scratch marks'

A man accused of raping two women in their hotel room has claimed they both willingly had sex with him before the 'dominant' one left him 'covered in scratch marks.'

Callum Kenny, 24, alleged he met the women at the door of their Ibis hotel room after the pair returned from a night out in Bristol.

He told jurors how one of the women told him she found him attractive. Kenny said the pair kissed, and he was then invited inside their room.  

The defendant said he had consensual, unprotected sex with one of the women before the other was an equally willing participant, Bristol Crown Court heard.

He previously admitted drinking alcohol on the night in question, as well as taking under a gram of cocaine. 

Kenny told the court how he and a friend had watched a football match before heading to an event at the Motion night club in Bristol.

After the pair returned to their room at around 2.15am, Kenny claims his friend went to bed but he wanted to head out again to party.  

He admitted trying to open door handles to rooms on his floor in a bid to see if anyone was awake and drinking.

The court heard how Kenny then spotted the two women as he returned to his floor after sitting in the hotel reception. 

He told the court: 'I could see these two girls walking back to their room. I said "hello'" with my arms open in an approachable manner. 

'We engaged in conversation.' 

Kenny told jurors one woman told him 'Can you keep the noise down' after he entered their room in the Ibis hotel.

He claimed it was then that he switched his attention to the second woman, and they engaged in sexual intercourse.   

Kenny told the court: 'We had sex for five or ten minutes. Then they both performed a sex on me at the same time.'

Jurors heard how, after some sleep, Kenny had sex again with one of the women before returning to his room.   

He said: 'I was exhausted. I stood up and said, "I'm going to go now."'

Kenny claimed he was left with scratch marks all over is body, caused by the more aggressive, dominant woman.

He said: 'Not once was I made to feel unwelcome. Not once was there a complaint about sexual activity.'

The defendant said that afterwards he returned to his room and later told his friend he had a threesome.

He and his friend left the hotel around 11.30am and he was arrested from his Cornwall home at around 11pm.

He said: 'My life turned upside down.' 

Sarah Regan, prosecuting, previously told Bristol Crown Court how the women booked a room at the hotel and went out for the evening. 

The pair drank wine, sangria and gin in bars before dancing in a club, she said. 

Miss Regan said the next thing one of the women could remember was looking out the door of the bathroom and seeing a naked man having what looked like 'rough sex' with her friend in the bedroom.

When it was quiet the woman came out of the bathroom and her friend asked her if she had brought the man back, the jury was told.

Miss Regan said: 'The woman thought her friend had brought the man back.'

But the friend who was with the man thought it was the other woman, who was in the bathroom, that brought the man back. 

'Her friend said she (the woman in the bathroom) was with him.

'The woman had absolutely no recall of having sex with the man - she thought her friend was joking.'

The court heard police acquired CCTV from the hotel which showed the women entering the premises in the early hours.

Miss Regan said: 'The two women were clearly drunk.'

The jury was shown footage of the women being given two extra room keys and going to their room.

There was also footage of Kenny returning to his room, earlier, before he left his room door slightly ajar and tried the door handles of some other rooms before sitting in reception.

Footage then captures how he noticed the two women, followed them to their room and went inside with them. 

Police were able to track down Kenny after seeing him on the hotel CCTV.
