A popular gelato chain has named a new flavour after NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to take a swipe at her Queensland rival Annastacia Palaszczuk and her controversial border closures.

'Palaszczuk, if you want a flavour open the border to Sydney,' the caption read.

Ms Palaszczuk has come under fire for her strict coronavirus measures and has ignored repeated calls from Ms Berejiklian to relax the Queensland border.

Queensland has opened its borders to regional NSW but kept Sydneysiders out as the city has recorded a very small number of community-transmitted cases.

Ms Palaszczuk has also flagged the possibility that Sydneysiders may remain barred from Queensland when the state reviews its borders on November 30.

'We will be looking very closely at the end of the month at Victoria, and also New South Wales. There may be some hot spots,' she told reporters on Friday.

Messina fans have praised the message behind its new sorbet flavour.

'This is the bloody best,' one commenter wrote.

'Messina's pushing for us too,' another user said.

Other commenters joked about a potential flavour for the Queensland premier.

'Annastacia Palastachio,' one commenter suggested.

'Can you imagine how sour the Annastacia gelato would be? There's not enough citrus in the world,' another user wrote.

The relationship between the two premiers became strained as a result of the border closures and has resulted in several public digs.

Ms Berejiklian texted the newly re-elected Ms Palaszczuk following her election win in early November but did not receive a response for three days.

The NSW premier also admitted she would not engage in a traditional bet with the Queensland leader over State of Origin, saying she was still frustrated by hwe refusal to open the border.

Queensland eased its gathering restrictions on Tuesday but the border remains closed to Sydney, Adelaide and all of Victoria.

The Sunshine State has gone 63 days without any community transmitted coronavirus while NSW has gone 10 days without locally acquired cases.
