Five-year-old boy wakes up to find his parents' bodies after suspected murder-suicide and walks hundreds of metres to his uncle's house to yell 'help, my mummy's dead'

A five-year-old boy walked hundreds of metres to call for help after waking up to find his parents dead from a suspected murder-suicide.  

The boy walked through the streets of Townsville, in North Queensland, to the home of his uncle after making the grim discovery on Tuesday morning.

'He's attended an address and provided some information, very limited, that resulted in other people going and identifying that two people were deceased in the other house,' Detective Inspector David Miles said.

Police were called to the property on Fulham Road in Gulliver, Townsville, about 9.15am.

'Any death is a tragedy... in this instance ... we have a young person who is without parents and obviously he's been subjected to an extremely tragic set of circumstances,' Insp. Miles said. 

The boy is now being cared for by family. 

Authorities haven't ruled out the involvement of another person but early indications suggest only the man and woman were involved in the deaths, Insp Miles said. 

He said the cause of death of the 48-year-old man and 46-year-old woman was yet to be determined.

'There hasn't been any medical examinations or autopsies at this stage,' Insp Miles added.

He said one of the people found dead lived in the home where the bodies were found.

The relationship between the man and woman would be further investigated but they had 'not overly' come to the attention of police previously. 

No one else was injured in the incident and police have set up a crime scene at the location.

Neighbour Peter MacElroy told The Townsville Bulletin he saw a group of men arrive at the home before police attended. 

Mr MacElroy said one of the men approached him. 

'He said the door has been knocked down (at the home), and broken into and they were waiting for police,' Mr MacElroy said. 

One of the men is the brother of the woman, Mr MacElroy said.
