Moment of relief as a dad and his 10-year-old son are rescued from their bogged ute after their companions walked 12 HOURS to raise the alarm

Dramatic footage has emerged showing the moment a father and son were rescued from floodwaters in remote north-west Queensland after being trapped overnight. 

The father and his 10-year-old son were with a group of three others when their ute became bogged in floodwaters in an area 50km west of Mount Isa, on Sunday night.

The following morning after spending the night stranded, the group of three set off on foot in search of help. 

The trio walked for 12 hours before they found the police station at about 6pm on Monday in Mount Isa.

The Mount Isa-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was then sent out to find the father and son who were still stranded in the water. 

The trio managed to find where the ute had become stuck on the map and the crew flew directly to the location.

Just before last light, the crew located the man and child sitting on the roof of a vehicle and landed the helicopter on a dry patch of land nearby.

The pair did not require medical attention and were flown to Mount Isa Airport in good spirits.

'They had water with them. Despite having to wait such a long time to be rescued, they remained with their vehicle until help arrived,' he said.
