Jackass star Sean McInerney suffers horror shark bite when wakeboarding jump over infested waters goes wrong and he fails to stick the landing during Discovery's Shark Week

The newest star of Jackass suffered a horror shark bite when a wakeboarding jump over infested waters went wrong as the team carried out stunts for Shark Week. 

After emerging from a handful of antics unscathed during their Discovery special on Sunday, Jackass members Steve-O and and Chris Pontius decided to send one of the newest of their crew, Sean McInerney - nicknamed 'Poopies' - wakeboarding across shark infested waters.

After a successful initial run, they decided to up the stakes and 'jump the shark', sending McInerney off a ramp.

But McInerney failed to stick the landing, and plunged into the waters as sharks swarmed towards him. 

He was almost immediately bitten on the hand, as crew members raced to rescue him.

As part of its Shark Week special this year, the Jackass crew sent one of its newest, Sean McInerney, wakeboarding off a ramp into shark infested waters

The stunt ended with predictably horrible results 

With McInerney bleeding profusely, safety and medical crews shout for a tourniquet. 

Steve-O, who has suffered his fair share of Jackass-related injuries including a shark bite to his own hand, appeared relieved it wasn't worse.

'This was only one bite in one spot?' he asked. 'And he's not missing anything?'

But in an interview with Steve WillDoIt before it aired, Steve-O, aka Stephen Glover, revealed that McInerney's injury was much worse than the special lets on, and that he was lucky to be alive. 

He said McInerney had been 'mangled' in the attack, and required surgery to reattach tendons and two arteries in his hand.    

'He would be f**king dead if they didn’t dive on him as fast as they did. Jesus, he got wrecked by a shark! For a Shark Week episode!'

Pontius also acknowledged in the special the risks inherent to the stunts the crew pulls.

Chris Pontius acknowledged the risk the crew takes with its stunts. 'It's a reminder that yeah, like, we are pushing it pretty hard. And this could happen,' he said

Speaking after, McInerney appeared to hold no ill will for the creatures. 'I was in their living room, and it was dinnertime,' he said

'It's a reminder that yeah, like, we are pushing it pretty hard. And this could happen, of course,' he said. 'It's either, like, everything's okay or this happens. And hopefully it's always everything's okay, everything's okay. But then... you know, this time it's not okay.' 

Speaking afterward, his arm in a cast, McInerney was upbeat about the encounter. 

'I definitely got a degree in shark college there,' he said. 'I knew there was a chance I was going to get bit by a shark, but I didn't think it was going to happen.'

And despite them giving him what will undoubtedly be a nasty scar, he held no ill will for the creatures, saying, 'I don't blame the sharks at all. I mean, I was in their living room, and it was dinnertime.'
