EXCLUSIVE: Suzanne Morphew's married lover went to same high school with both her AND her husband Barry - and was featured alongside the accused murderer in the local paper in 1985

The married lover of missing mom Suzanne Morphew appeared in the local paper alongside husband Barry in 1985, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Married dad Jeffrey Libler, 51, was named in court on Monday as the man Suzanne, 49, had a two-year affair with before she vanished on Mother's Day 2020.

Her husband Barry Morphew, 53, has been charged with her murder - with police investigators citing the affair and her wish to leave him as a possible motive during the preliminary hearing in Salida, Colorado.

Both men attended the same high school as Suzanne, with Morphew two grades ahead of his wife and Libler at the Alexandria-Monroe High School in Alexandria, Indiana.

Now a newspaper report unearthed by DailyMail.com shows both men won plaudits for their sporting prowess - Morphew in baseball and Libler in golf.

Both Suzanne and Libler appear in the 1987 edition of the school's yearbook, with Suzanne appearing in the school's German club, while Libler took Spanish.

Suzanne and Libler also appear just a few pages apart in the portrait photo section.

The June 12, 1985 news report lists the high school's sporting big-hitters with Morphew taking fifth place in the baseball team's list of most valuable players.

A photo that appears above the report in the Alexandria Times Tribune shows a young Morphew sporting a blond bowl cut and sitting among fellow players.

Libler appears further down the same page under the golf listing and was one of two freshmen assigned to the First Varsity A.

Suzanne has been missing since May 10, 2020 when her daughters Mallory and Macy raised the alarm after they couldn't get hold of her on Mother's Day.

Morphew made an impassioned appeal two days later begging her to return while painting a picture of a close, loving family and himself as a husband desperate to find his wife.

He later went on to release love letters from Suzanne and gave a series of interviews in which he suggested the mom-of-two could have been kidnapped or taken by a bear.

But days after Suzanne vanished, DailyMail.com exclusively revealed that his home had been repeatedly searched by the police and Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Then, in September 2020, DailyMail.com revealed Morphew had left a hotel room stinking of bleach and covered in wet towels on the day his wife was reported missing.

In June, Morphew was arrested and charged with Suzanne's murder, although her body has never been found.

In court on Monday, police painted a very different portrait of the couple's relationship - setting out in excruciating detail how the pair's marriage had broken down and how Suzanne was desperate to leave Morphew for Libler.

Investigators said the pair reconnected when Suzanne contacted Libler on Linkedin before switching to Facebook and then talking on the phone.

On one day alone - November 26, 2018 - the couple exchanged seven calls and spoke for a total of four hours.

Between January 4 and 11, 2019, the pair called each other 26 times and then met up in New Orleans the following month where their relationship turned physical.

Libler, who lives in Michigan, went on to meet up with Suzanne six more times and received his final message from her on May 9 - the day before she vanished.

Along with their New Orleans trip, the pair met in April 2019 in Indiana, July 2019 in Michigan, October 2019 in Dallas, and in February 2020 in Florida.

Libler was planning a trip to Colorado in March of 2020 but was forced to call it off after the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Investigators said the couple communicated over LinkedIn to avoid detection and one of their last conversations involved Suzanne telling him she was in love with him.

Police discovered the affair in November 2020, six months after Suzanne vanished, when they listened to the contents of a spy pen purchased by Suzanne to monitor Morphew.

Libler, whose phone pinged in Michigan on the day Suzanne vanished, had by then deleted his LinkedIn account and told police who tracked him down that he only realized she was missing when a friend sent him a link on May 12, 2020.

He told investigators the affair began in 2018 when Suzanne contacted him, saying: 'Howdy stranger.'

As the pair communicated more over text, Morphew became suspicious, so they began speaking through LinkedIn messages.

Libler also told police his daughter had caught him out - noticing messages from Suzanne on his phone when she borrowed it to order pizza.

In their more recent conversations, the pair had discussed going biking together and Suzanne told Libler she was in love with him.

She also told Libler that she wanted to marry him but couldn't because of religious reasons.

On the morning of May 9 she texted him: 'We need to be husband & wife.'

Later that day, he texted her that 'my gang is my home'. There were no texts after that.

Police also told the court that the couple had exchanged nude photos and that he had been behind her love of IPA beer and mountain biking.

The hearing also revealed Suzanne had begun researching language schools in Ecuador after Libler suggested that the South American country had cheap living costs and good healthcare in December 2019.

Friends of the missing mother-of-two testified that she'd confided in them about how strained her marriage to Morphew was.

Sheila Oliver, Suzanne's friend of 30 years, said she wanted to leave him.

The court was shown text messages between the two which included Suzanne referring to Barry as 'Jekyll and Hyde.'

She wrote: 'It's Jekyll and Hyde again. He and Mal were together last night. Prob switching it on when he talks with her.

'Ugh. I feel like I'm crazy. I just had a conversation with him. Pretty much told him I can't be healthy and stay in this.'

When they argued, she complained Morphew would use Biblical scriptures whenever it suited him to guilt-trip her into forgiving him.

In another message to Oliver she wrote: 'I'd live in a shack right now.'

'I'm sure he won't make it easy. He has always wanted control,' she added, referring to her husband.

Oliver also described incidents of domestic violence that included Morphew smacking Suzanne into a wall and holding a gun to her head.

Another report described how he'd once held a gun to his own head in an apparent suicide threat.

Suzanne also told her friend that he was trying to turn their two daughters against her.

The hearing is scheduled to continue until Tuesday, with a second preliminary hearing scheduled for August 23.
