Spot the predator! Moment a stealthy leopardess crawls along a track on her belly to pounce on a springbok as it grazes under a tree

This is the moment a sly leopardess crept within a few feet of an unsuspecting springbok before launching her deadly attack.

Johan Cronje, 47, was on a family safari trip in Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park, which straddles the border of South Africa and Botswana, when he spotted the leopardess eyeing up the antelope as it grazed under a tree.

Mr Cronje's footage captured the predator slowly crawling along on her belly, hidden below a sandy bank running alongside the track.

The big cat then creeps up out of the road and, using the tree for cover, tiptoes closer to her prey as it continues to graze.  

Just seconds later, the leopardess launches herself at her prey and a chase ensues between the pair.

The predator then sinks her claws into the helpless animal and brings it to the ground.    

Mr Cronje said the springbok had 'no idea' the leopardess was so close and continued to graze underneath the tree.

He told LatestSightings.com the story: 'The leopardess swiftly moved behind the tree and came within a few feet of the springbok before making her chase. 

'At this point, it was too late for the springbok to escape and the chase was over within seconds.

'After a very successful hunt, the leopardess left the carcass in the shade and wandered off to fetch her two cubs.

'I have seen many leopard sightings in my years but this one was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience! To have the sighting all to ourselves was a bonus.'
