'They have no idea': MPs blast Home Office over immigration and claim there are 'major holes' in their understanding of how many illegals are in the country

The civil servants who enforce immigration rules have no idea how many illegal migrants are living in Britain, MPs said yesterday. The Home Office has not assessed the total number living here without permission for 15 years – a period in which there has been an unprecedented influx. It has no grasp of the damage done by illegal immigration or of the criminals associated with it, and it has only a ‘disturbingly weak’ understanding of the effects of its own efforts to stop illegal immigration or deport people with no right to be in the country, MPs said. Home Office has not assessed the total number of illegal migrants for 15 years. The findings come amid growing concern about the failure of Home Secretary Priti Patel and her officials to stop the arrival across the Channel of illegal immigrants in small boats Last year, officials released 62 per cent of detainees it had intended to remove from the UK – up from 56 per cent in 2018. The findings from the Commons public accounts committe

Irish convicted killer who was allowed to enter Australia is now on the run from cops over knife frenzy in swanky Sydney suburb that left a man with a severed ear

An Irishman wanted over the brutal stabbing that left a man with a severed ear was allowed into Australia despite being jailed over the death of another victim in 2013.  Officers are searching for Patrick Farrell, 29, after victim Oliver Solan was left in a pool of blood in a corridor in a Randwick apartment block in Sydney's east on August 29. Joe Biden slams Donald Trump's AG Bill Barr as 'sick' for comparing lockdowns to slavery as he says he would mandate masks on federal land and levy FINES to set example for nation

Democratic nominee Joe Biden went after Attorney General Bill Barr for saying that coronavirus lockdown orders were the 'greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history' since slavery.  'Quite frankly they're sick,' Biden remarked of Barr's comments at a Thursday night CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper.   Biden said he was in disbelief that Barr would almost equate 'following the recommendations of the scientific community' to save lives during the coronavirus crisis to 'people being put in chains.'  'You lost your freedom because he didn't act,' Biden said - that comment likely intended for his political rival, President Donald Trump.  The former vice president said he consider fining people on federal property - which is in the president's jurisdiction - for not wearing masks, after having already called for a nationwide mask mandate, which he'd have to implement by putting pressure on governors.  'If you’re o

'Highly likely' some Australians will be forced to wait to get the COVID-19 vaccine while others are prioritised if it is approved

Some Australians could be forced to wait longer than others when a COVID-19 vaccine does become available, experts have warned.     The Federal Government has locked in a deal to get access to the University of Oxford COVID-19 vaccine as early as January. Australians would receive 3.8million doses of the drug being developed by UK firm AstraZeneca in the first two months of next year. National Centre of Immunisation Research and Surveillance director Kristine Macartney told ABC the first batch would not be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.  'It's highly likely there will be a limited supply of the vaccine,' she said. 'That reinforces the need to decide on prioritisation.' Lancashire is set to be placed under a coronavirus curfew tomorrow, reports suggest, as revellers in Newcastle enjoy one last night on the town before their own restrictions come into play.  Drinkers have flocked to watering holes in the North East this evening after Matt Hancock confirmed the region would be hit by a 10pm curfew on pubs and bars from tomorrow. Around 9.2 million Britons had already been put under tougher local lockdown restrictions because of a spike in cases of coronavirus, but that figure could be about to rise beyond 10 million. New restrictions for Lancashire, with the exception of Blackpool, are expected to come into force imminently and mirror those in the North East, Sky News reports. The city of Preston, along with towns including Blackburn, Burnley, Lancaster and Morecambe are expected to be included.   Lancashire as a county has a population of more than 1.2 million, with around 140,000 people living in Blackpool. The Health Secretary confirmed that people l
