A Brooklyn man who was sitting in his car on Tuesday afternoon was shot twice execution-style from close range by a gunman before collapsing and succumbing to his wounds, according to police. Ricardo Pena, 37, of East Williamsburg was in his gold Kia sedan on Bushwick Avenue near Powers Street in Williamsburg when he was shot in the face by a gunman just before 2:40pm, the New York Daily News reported. A wounded Pena then got out of his car before the gunman fired another shot, investigators told the Daily News. Pena, who had blood pouring from his face and neck, collapsed just outside of a local laundromat. Five students are in quarantine after opening used coronavirus nasal swab tests which were mistakenly handed out as part of a testing scheme, an undergraduate said today. Seven households in Selly Oak, Birmingham were given the used kits as part of Birmingham City Council's 'drop and collect' service on Tuesday.  Students were 'shocked and worried' when they opened the boxes only to discover sealed bags inside containing used swabs.   The council carried out an investigation overnight which found there was 'no evidence of cross-contamination', the BBC reports.     Dr Justin Varney, the city's public health director, claimed a seal had been broken on only one of the 25 kits.  He added there was 'no evidence that that test tube was opened so we think that the risk of contamination from the sample itself is very, very unlikely.'  But one student has claimed at least five used tests handed out by Birmingham City Council were used again by unsuspectin

Fish wars have broken out in the English Channel as French trawlers confronted their British counterparts - firing flares and throwing frying pans. Two British boats - the Girl Macey, skippered by Scott Glover, and the Golden Promise, by Brian Whittington - fishing for scallops were involved in the skirmish. Ms Blauel, a German recording engineer, sued Sir Elton for allegedly breaching an agreement the pair signed after their divorce in 1988 following a four-year marriage.
