Secret Service sends additional agents to Delaware to ramp up protection for Joe Biden as he edges closer to a win and plans to make 'big announcement' later today

The Secret Service has increased its protective bubble around Joe Biden by sending in additional agents to Delaware as he edges closer to an election win.  An extra squad of agents were sent to Biden's campaign headquarters at a  convention center in Wilmington overnight. The move came after Biden's campaign told the agency he could make a big announcement from his campaign headquarters as early as Friday, law enforcement sources said.    Dozens of Secret Service agents have been protecting the Democratic presidential candidate and his headquarters this week.  Biden already had Secret Service protection as a candidate. He did have protection given his previous role as former vice president.   In the past, the agency has increased security as soon as a candidate is declared the winner on election night. The additional security was deployed as Biden inched closer to victory on Friday.  The Secret Service has increased its protective bubble around Joe Biden by sending in additiona

Michel Barnier 'blocks British demands for Boris Johnson to negotiate directly with Ursula von der Leyen' as Brexit trade negotiations stall ahead of talks resuming in London next week

Michel Barnier is blocking British demands for Boris Johnson to negotiate directly with Ursula von der Leyen to break the deadlock in post-Brexit trade talks, it was claimed today.   Two weeks of intensified talks between the UK and the European Union have failed to result in a breakthrough, with a new round of formal discussions starting in London next week. Both sides want a deal to be agreed by the middle of November to give them enough time to ratify and implement it before the end of the transition period in December.  But with time running out and little progress being made, the UK is reportedly pushing Mr Barnier to allow talks to be elevated to a political level.  That would see Mr Johnson negotiate directly with European Commission President Ms von der Leyen as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.  But the EU's chief negotiator is said to be resisting the move because he fears Number 10 trying to turn the last stretch of the negotia

James Murdoch's wife Kathryn agrees Fox News owners have an obligation to 'make it clear there is no credible evidence of widespread election fraud' - months after husband quit News Corp over its 'editorial content'

James Murdoch's wife Kathryn has voiced her agreement that her family, which owns Fox News, must 'put their country above their profits' and disavow President Donald Trump's claims of widespread voter fraud. Kathryn Murdoch, 47, expressed the sentiment in a tweet on Friday, saying she agreed with CNN host Jake Tapper, who had stated: 'The Murdochs and the people at Fox have an obligation to put their country above their profits. It is very important that people make it very clear -- that there is no credible evidence of widespread fraud.'  'I agree with this,' Kathryn tweeted. Her remark came as little surprise given her history of public criticism of Fox News coverage, particularly on the topic of climate change, and her work with groups such as Unite America on bridging partisan divides.  Her husband James stepped down from the board of Fox News parent News Corp in July, citing disagreements with some of the company's editorial content. Short people face a greater risk of catching coronavirus because of the way droplets fall slowly to the ground after a cough or sneeze, study claims

Short people may face a greater risk of catching coronavirus because of how droplets fall to the ground, a study has claimed. Researchers in Singapore measured the way Covid-19 travels after its expelled by an infected person keeping two metres apart from others. They found after the initial blast of a sneeze or cough, the viral particles briefly linger in the air and fall slowly to the ground.  The academics said the downwards trajectory put shorter people at greater risk of inhaling the droplets compared to taller people. They have suggested teenagers, women and anyone under 5ft 5 keep more than two metres away from others. The two metre rule is what the UK Government advises.  For comparison, the average height of a woman in the UK is 5ft 3 and for a man it is 5ft 9. However, the study was done using animations on a computer model so it did not reflect a real life scenario. The research also indicates that children should be at a greater risk - but a wealth of studies have shown pri

Mitch McConnell hedges his bets and says EVERY vote must be counted - as GOP's Pennsylvania senator calls president's conspiracy-theory rant 'hard to watch' and says there is NO large scale fraud

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ignored President Donald Trump's wild claims of widespread election fraud, sending out a sober tweet Friday morning.  'Here's how this must work in our great country: Every legal vote should be counted. Any illegally-submitted ballots must not. All sides must get to observe the process. And the courts are here to apply the laws & resolve disputes,' the Kentucky Republican wrote. 'That's how Americans' votes decide the result.'   McConnell's comments came after a number of Republicans in and out of office have criticized Trump's Thursday evening briefing room appearance.   His statement was markedly different in tone from that of the  House's GOP leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who tweeted mid-day Friday, 'Far from over. Republicans will not back down from this battle.'  But support for Trump was starting to crumble.  Pennsylvania's Republican Sen. Pat Toomey gave an unprompted slap-down of T
