Woman driving in freak thunderstorm is killed when huge tree falls onto her Toyota SUV and her passenger rushed to hospital
A woman has tragically died while another was seriously injured after their car was crushed by a fallen tree branch during a wild thunderstorm in the Adelaide Hills. The female driver, 59, was travelling along Mount Barker Road in Stirling shortly after 10pm on Wednesday night when her white Toyota wagon was struck by a large tree branch that had snapped off in strong winds of up to 120km/hr. The woman from the nearby suburb of Crafers died at the scene. A front seat passenger, a 26-year-old Aldgate woman was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries.
