Fauci goes against Biden's new COVID chief and says the US does NOT need to go into a six-week national lockdown because 'help is really on the way' with all Americans set to get access to a vaccine by April

Dr. Anthony Fauci says the US does not need to go into a six-week national lockdown, contradicting a proposal by President-elect Joe Biden's new COVID-19 advisor.   Biden's hire, Dr. Michael Osterholm, hit headlines on Wednesday, claiming that a lengthy lockdown may be the best way to keep hospitalizations and deaths down as the country experiences a surge in coronavirus infections.  But in an interview with Good Morning America on Thursday, Fauci stated that he does not believe such extreme action is necessary as long as people adhere to public health measures like mask-wearing, hand-washing and social distancing. 'We would like to stay away from that because there's no appetite for locking down the American public, ' Fauci told the morning news program.  'You don't necessarily have to shut everything down. The best opposite strategy to locking down is to intensify the public health measures. If you can do that well, you don't have to take that step ...

E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump is moving forward despite the Justice Department's efforts to intervene after a federal judge in New York scheduled a pretrial conference for next month.   US District Judge Lewis Kaplan issued an order on Wednesday telling Carroll and Trump's lawyers to agree on a timeline for the trial to progress.  If they don't come to an agreement privately and submit it to the court, both parties will have to appear before the judge at a telephone conference on December 11.  Carroll's attorney Roberta Kaplan, who has no relation to the judge, shared her satisfaction with the latest court order on Thursday.  'We look forward to finally moving ahead with discovery in the case, which has been on hold since Trump filed his motion for a stay last February, and look forward to the initial conference in E Jean Carroll's case on Dec. 11, if the parties cannot agree on a schedule,' the attorney said in a st

HS2 unearthed! If you thought it was still being argued over then think again - as these remarkable pictures show, the controversial £106bn rail link has already broken cover

With all the delays, spiralling costs and protests up and down the country, you might have thought HS2 was going nowhere fast. In fact, as these astonishing pictures reveal, the controversial project has been quietly tearing up swathes of the Buckinghamshire countryside – and is now set to tunnel under the Chilterns. This week two giant 2,000-ton, 558ft long machines arrived in the UK, where they will soon begin burrowing. The machines will have to drill through ten miles of chalk and flint to complete the tunnel, which will begin near the M25 and end near South Heath in Buckinghamshire. Described as a ‘defining moment in the history’ of the high-speed rail link, they will dig as deep as 90m (295ft) below ground for three continuous years. They were built at the Herrenknecht factory in Germany and have been shipped in pieces to the UK, before being transported to the Chilterns this week. Local schoolchildren named the enormous machines Cecilia and Florence, after Buckinghamshire-born a
