Jill and Doug pitch in! First Lady and Second Gentleman enjoy a cold beer at a Houston Astros game as they tour the Southwest encouraging Americans to get vaccinated

Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff enjoyed a cold beer Tuesday night at the Houston Astros game as part of their joint tour encouraging Texans to get vaccinated. The first lady and second gentleman sat with military members and frontline workers at Minute Maid Park to watch the Astros play the Baltimore Oriels. They each enjoyed a glass of Crawford Bock beer and clinked their plastic cups. Jill Biden told reporters the duo were in Texas 'because the numbers are low here. I think 40% of all Texans are vaccinated.' The Biden administration is pushing shots in arms amid concerns about the rising spread of the Delta variant of the virus. Health experts warn it could cause regional spikes in COVID cases in states with low vaccination rates. Jill Biden said despite the risk it is safe to have Fourth of July celebrations. The White House is hosting military members and front line workers on the South Lawn for a large Independence Day celebration. 'Well yeah, we're saying yes. If you&#

Melinda Gates appears in Paris for the first time since divorce - without her wedding ring - as she reveals Gates Foundation will spend $2.1BN on gender equality after new accusations Bill preyed on female Microsoft staff

Melinda Gates has made one of her first public appearances since her shock divorce announcement from Bill to reveal the Gates Foundation will spend $2.1 billion on gender equality work - weeks after her husband was accused of preying on female Microsoft staff. Melinda, 56, appeared on stage at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris Wednesday to call for the need to 'lift up women' and make one of the largest single commitments the foundation has made in more than two decades. Dressed head to toe in white and with her wedding ring notably absent from her left hand, Melinda appeared to be sending a clear message to her estranged husband.   Melinda has long pushed for gender equality to be a key priority for the Seattle-based foundation, while Microsoft founder Bill, 65, has instead prioritized polio eradication and the development of vaccines in recent years.   The 56-year-old's renewed push for women's rights comes as Bill has been rocked by numerous claims he behaved in

Third Covid vaccine for millions from September: 32m over-50s, key workers and Britons with underlying health conditions could be offered a booster Covid jab in as little as two months under fresh guidance to shield most vulnerable in winter

Tens of millions of Britons could be offered a third Covid jab in as little as two months under fresh guidance issued by No10's top advisers tonight. The Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisations said the booster scheme should start in September and could see 23million over-50s, vulnerable Britons and NHS and care home staff offered another dose. Extra vaccines would be rolled out in two stages — prioritising those most at risk of Covid — with patients offered whichever jab they were originally inoculated with. It will coincide with the annual influenza inoculation programme, which health officials say will be vital this winter amid warnings of a difficult flu season. The interim advice has been drawn up to ensure the NHS is prepared for any possible booster campaign in the autumn, while officials await more data on whether a third jab will be needed.  Ministers are expected to make a decision on whether to go ahead with the programme in the coming weeks. A preacher who was arrested and fined for breaching Covid-19 rules by giving a sermon in the street during the first lockdown has lost a legal bid to overturn the £400 penalty. Andrew Sathiyavan, 46, was charged £432 after preaching the Christian gospel in Sutton, south London, on Easter Sunday last year. Footage shows officers confiscating Mr Sathiyavan's wooden cross before handcuffing him and bundling him into a police van.  He contested the fine at City of London magistrates court on June 18 but the judge ruled police were right to arrest him. He was handed an additional £100 fine, plus £300 costs and a £32 victim surcharge. Nightclubs WILL return after July 19! Live music venues and nightclubs will reopen on 'Freedom Day' - 'with NO need for Covid tests or proof of vaccination'

People will not be required to take coronavirus tests or present vaccine passports when they attend live music venues and nightclubs from July 19 in a major victory for Britain's devastated night-time economy and anti-lockdown campaigners, it emerged today.  Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove, who is leading a government review on the use of vaccine passports after lockdown ends, is understood to believe it will impose 'too much hassle' on the public and businesses to require tests to enjoy a live concert or a night's dancing.  A Government source told the London Evening Standard: 'We are increasingly confident that people are protected and the plan is to reopen everything, with no exceptions.' The announcement was hailed as a 'godsend' by relieved night-time economy leaders, with Simon Thomas, chief executive of the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square, telling the paper: 'It's time to get on with life and live with this virus as we've li
