Animal rescuer exposes sick 'dog sex rings' that leave some pets so scarred by abuse that they will never be adopted
Dog rescuers have revealed disturbing details about animals suffering sexual abuse at the hands of sick perpetrators.
Jacki Largo, the founder of emergency animal respite care network Paws And Recover, rescued a staffy named Stella from a facility in Canberra.
The small pup was found in a home with a stick forced into her vagina.
She was taken to the rescue facility but the trauma she had suffered was too much.

'It's a bit like paedophiles. It's done in the privacy of people's homes. It's a long, cultivated process,' she said.
'I'm sure the people who are sexually abusing dogs, they're doing it in their own homes.'
Ms Largo told news.com.au they considered euthanising the dog because she had 'completely shut down'.
After months of rehabilitation she tried rehoming Stella but every time they tried she would regress.

Stella now lives with Ms Largo and is unlikely to ever be rehomed.
Rachel Haig said she was aware of three other dogs who had suffered similar sexual abuse, some have even been filmed.
She said in some cases, their anatomy has been permanently changed due to the abuse.
RSPCA NSW Chief Veterinarian Dr Liz Arnott said the abuse caused long-term psychological damage.
She said behavioral issues include aggression or they can be more fearful of people.
