Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson blast Mitch McConnell for 'impeachment madness' because it won't solve GOP's problems

Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson came out swinging for Donald Trump on Wednesday night and urged Mitch McConnell to end what they called 'impeachment madness'. 

The pair of hosts spoke separately on their own shows but both took a hard line against Senate Majority Leader McConnell who rejected a speedy Senate impeachment trial for Donald Trump then said he was willing to convict.

Neither expressly supported nor condemned the President or his actions over the last week, resisting the urge to share their opinion on whether or not Trump actually deserves to be impeached over the MAGA mob riot he's accused of inciting.

They did, however, slam Republicans for their cooperation in the impeachment process which they say won't do anything to solve the party's problems and may cost them tens of millions of votes.

If Trump is convicted by Senate trial, the Senate can then vote on banning him from running for office again on a simple majority vote, and could also vote for more punitive measures including stripping him of his presidential pension and the more than $1 million a year he can expect to be allocated to run a presidential office. 

McConnell, a long-time Trump ally, has said he is willing to convict Trump and reports are circling that he is 'done' with supporting him. 

Hannity fumed on his show that while McConnell - a long-time Trump ally - is reportedly 'done' with the president, millions of Americans are not.

'Senate Republicans, you want to go along with this nonsense, 75 million Americans went to the polls, I’d argue they went there more for Donald Trump than for Republicans.

'They should think about why people voted for Donald Trump, why they support his agenda.

'And Mitch McConnell, you should know better... this nonsense in the Senate will get this country nowhere. 

'It will not heal divisions, it will not improve the lives of Americans, it will only further divide a country that is weeks out from one of the hotly contested races in history,' he said. 

Carlson said an impeachment trial will only continue to stoke division in the country once Trump is out of office.  

'Here's how it works from the perspective of the Republican leadership: It would be best if Donald Trump just went away forever. He's embarrassing. They don't want to talk about him. They'd like him to disappear. 

'So that's their plan with impeachment.

'Make it so that Trump can never run for office again, not that he actually planned to, and then disgrace Trump so thoroughly that he cannot appear in public ever again, then pretend that Donald Trump never happened.

'Call it the suburban Connecticut denial strategy. "Whatever you do, don't talk about mom's alcoholism. Just act like it's not happening and maybe it'll go away,"' he said. 

He argued that impeaching Trump would embolden his fans. 

'By impeaching the president during his final week in office, Congress will not succeed in discrediting Trump among Republican voters. 

'In fact, it will enhance Donald Trump among Republican voters, obviously. Who does your average Republican voter trust more, Donald Trump or the many people who hate Donald Trump? Donald Trump or Mitch McConnell? Donald Trump or CNN? You know the answer,' he said. 

McConnell said on Wednesday that a fast impeachment trial is out of the question. 

Instead, it will overshadow Biden's first few weeks in office.
