Aussie hero and basketball bronze medallist Patty Mills has shared the heartwarming handwritten note a flight attendant penned for him as he made his way back to Australia after the Tokyo Olympics. 

On Friday Mills shared a series of Olympic-themed Instagram stories in celebration of the Boomers' historic medal win, including the adorable message he was gifted.

'Congratulations on your bronze medal!' The note read.

'We are glad to see you onboard today. Please take care of yourself and we are looking forward to seeing you again.'

The 33-year-old posted a photo of the note written by a Japan Airline employee,  posing with flight attendants while he celebrated his medal win in luxury business class seats. 

Alongside the note airline staff also provided the Olympian with a celebratory  dessert that spelled out 'congratulations' in drizzled chocolate.

The note was a heartwarming touch as the basketball player made the long journey home from Tokyo to Sydney.

Celebrating with an array of beverages from champagne to coffee Mills did not shy away from his proud win, clutching his bronze medal tight in hand.

Mills scored 42 points to drag Australia past Slovenia 107-93 to claim the bronze win at the Tokyo games securing the Boomers' first Olympic men's basketball medal. 

'It's our culture, at the end of the day, Australian culture, our Aussie spirit,' an emotional Mills said after winning.

'It is time to bring an Olympic medal home, back to our country, Australia, so I can hang it up at mum and dad's house.'

Since the win Mills has signed a $16million deal with NBA heavyweights the Brooklyn Nets. 

The new gig will see the athlete play alongside NBA icons like Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, with the hopes he'll have another championship medal to display alongside his bronze. 

Since landing in Sydney Mills has been in mandatory 14 day hotel quarantine.
